How this sweet 15 year old was taken and held hostage, abused and raped over and over and over again and nobody thought to look for her is appalling... equally appalling is that no one in the medical system cared enough to make sure she was safe. I hope these gross pedophiles are in prison, being assaulted every day and then when they die, I hope they are assaulted and raped for an eternity. Happy she escaped, but 13 years of torture is too much for one person to endure. Heartbreaking.

Kelly is a walking miracle

It’s hard to fathom the abuse that children suffer at the hands of pedophiles and other abusers. And harder yet to see them grow through the trauma and come out on the other side a healthy, kind and genuine soul who’s life mission is to help others. Kudos, Kelly, for transformation. You truly are an inspiration.
One issue with the narration is that in several places in the book, sentences are repeated. It was kind of distracting.

Wow... just wow!

I couldn’t stop listening! Polo’s story was heartbreaking and heartfelt. I am shocked and disappointed in the USAF and it’s negligence and ignorant focus on homosexuality over violence and rape. I’m glad that “her, horrible her” will never hurt anyone again. But what about “him horrible him!?”
So glad you got your life back, Polo.... happy there is hope and success after darkness and pain. I also hope that your silence doesn’t mean violence and pain for another innocent victim.

Good book, with good information, but...

It was very hard to listen to this book. The narrator was terrible. He mispronounced many words and stuttered so much, my mind kept trailing off and I missed a lot of content.

Wonderful Book

I’m not a SAS, but I’m married to one. This book helped me to see from my husband’s perspective, all his hurts and betrayal at the hands of someone he trusted. And the author has reminded me where God would like for me to stand... at the side of my sweet husband, who did not deserve the childhood he was given. He reminded me that God has this and He will make all things new one day. But until then, we, as humans must fight against this horrible evil of childhood sexual abuse.

Heartbreaking, touching and offers SO much hope!

Marilyn gives a raw and painful account of her life from beginning to present and when God says He will turn our ashes to beauty, she is the walking, talking, breathing proof that God loves us and His promises are real. He doesn’t promise to keep us from evil, but He does promise to carry us through it.

What a refreshing new view on being accepting of self and others no matter what size we are. We are all of value no matter what kind of label society slaps on us. None it it matters... what does matter is how we love on and value ourselves. And I'll be darned...I realized through listening to this book that I am in fact, a feminist! Who knew?!
