Historia
Somehow, someway, every marriage becomes a struggle. Everyone’s marriage morphs into something they didn’t intend it to be. At some point you need something sturdier than romance. You need something deeper than shared interests and mutual attraction. You need changed expectations, you need radical commitments, and, most importantly, you need grace.

Excellent resource for marriage counseling
Revisado: 07-27-22
This book is an excellent resource for Christian couples, singles and or separated or divorced. Tripp does a great job in contextualizing biblical principles of marriage. My now wife and I read it during our engagement period and it has equipped us with tools for better communication, prayer and love for Christ and each other. A must read!

Esi paints with words!
Revisado: 12-12-21
This book is a beautiful work of art. Esi navigates storytelling with a maternalistic care that isn’t over protective but is thoughtful and didactically dynamic. Grounded in many historical references the book balances, ideas of the past and possibilities of our present and future.
Esi’s overall tone gives room for eager optimism & diverse curiosities. I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it gives a defused yet illuminating light to “shadow stories” & everyday human experiences. I am eager to read it again!

Historia
Living in small-town Utah has always been an uncomfortable fit for Tunde Akinola’s family, especially for his Nigeria-born parents. Though Tunde speaks English with a Midwestern accent, he can’t escape the children who rub his skin and ask why the black won’t come off. As he struggles to fit in, he finds little solace from his parents who are grappling with their own issues. Tunde’s father, ever the optimist, works tirelessly chasing his American dream while his wife, lonely in Utah without family and friends, sinks deeper into schizophrenia.

His Story is My Story!
Revisado: 03-03-21
Tope told his story as our story in such a beautifully nuanced way. As a first generation Yoruba-Nigerian American, every layer of this vulnerable fictional narrative was a glowing and growing mirror of my life. I read/listened to this book with ferocious intensity and introspection. Tope does an amazing job breaking down the emotive complexities in being a peripatetic Black male diasporan. The book was both affirming and healing to read.
I love this book so much I’ve just bought the physical copy to read again. And will like send copies to all my close male friends.
