Historia
Marjorie Crowe lives in Kilgoyne, Scotland. The locals put her age at somewhere between 55 and 70. They think she's divorced or a lifelong spinster; that she used to be a librarian, a pharmacist, or a witch. They think she's lonely, or ill, or maybe just plain rude. For the most part, they leave her be. But one day, everything changes. Local teenager Charlie McKee is found hanging in the woods, and Marjorie is the first one to see his body. When what she saw turns out to be impossible, the police have their doubts. And when another young person goes missing, the tide of suspicion turns on her.

This is a wonderful tale of overcoming. Of self-belief beyond measure. Written and produced beautifully to immerse me, a willing skeptic, completely under Maggie’s power. Well done! The Audible narration is superlative.

Historia
Inspired by her research for the hit podcast Ultra, Rachel Maddow charts the rise of a wild American strain of authoritarianism that has been alive on the far-right edge of our politics for the better part of a century. Before and even after our troops had begun fighting abroad in World War II, a clandestine network flooded the country with disinformation aimed at sapping the strength of the U.S. war effort and persuading Americans that our natural alliance was with the Axis, not against it.

The Sweetness of Water
Revisado: 07-08-23
This was such a great story! So well written and performed that as a member of the listening audience, I felt wooed and courted, loved and blessed. It’s dramatic, yes, but there was so much human nature involved - a great experience! So well drawn and executed! To the author….more, PLEASE. I listened to the whole thing in one sitting. I will probably listen to this work once a year. I do that with all of my favorites. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in bringing this gem to life. 🙏

Historia
Meet Dolores Price. She's 13, wise-mouthed but wounded, having bid her childhood goodbye. Beached like a whale in front of her bedroom TV, she spends the next few years nourishing herself with the Mallomars, potato chips, and Pepsi her anxious mother supplies. When she finally rolls into young womanhood at 257 pounds, Dolores is no stronger and life is no kinder. But this time she's determined to rise to the occasion and give herself one more chance before really going belly-up.

After all these years…
Revisado: 01-24-23
I listened to SHE’S COME UNDONE on a loop for the past week.
This story is so well written - Everyman, everywoman, all folk of all financial and physical means are so very wonderfully represented in a work that truly tethers human foibles without harnessing spirit.
It’s so wonderful to have this work to listen to and gain perspective from.
The characters ARE in character.
The story has a main goal and several smaller ones generated by the plot - but all goals work beautifully together to temper tension. And all goal quests were answered. Not superfluously, either.
There’s humor, both light and dark. Where humor was used, Wally had complete control of every landing!
As a wounded human - I both ran with Dolores and stayed with her, when she parked for a while.
I liked her because I think she’d like me. And that’s saying a lot.
I am so grateful to Wally writing this work and his family for enabling this fantastic creativity - for all of you to help give birth to this book!

Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli. By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Elsa must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

Is a magnificent story of a woman’s coming of age in a country as young as she is. Ms. Hannah doesn’t flinch from hard truths. I started listening and couldn’t pull away from the tale. This is a true piece of art. This is Americana. Beautifully written and performed. Thank you.

Historia
An intricate tale of love, haunting memories, and renewal, Second Glance begins in current-day Vermont, where an old man puts a piece of land up for sale and unintentionally raises protest from the local Abenaki Indian tribe, who insist it's a burial ground. When odd, supernatural events plague the town of Comtosook, a ghost hunter is hired by the developer to help convince the residents that there's nothing spiritual about the property.

A Master’s touch
Revisado: 10-30-21
This is a wonderful tale. While the underpinnings are driven by eugenics and the darker lesser nature to control and dominate, Jodi Picoult unravels the threads of several lives through several generations to gift the reader with life at its wondrous best. Yes. There is evil. But! Yes - there is goodness and the rippled blessings from goodness. I laughed and cried, and wished for every good thing to come to those that waited.
So glad it was a long listen. It was the best tale told me so far this year. Delicious…

A Wonderful modern history…
Revisado: 09-22-21
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to amazing family historical information that funneled directly through years of parallel U.S. and world history. It was archival family history that so richly describes the human condition. The fun part was listening to Mr. Cooper orate his love letter to his son. Every word was honey as he built beloved hives of words whose honeycombs wove in and out of American and world history. What an incredible legacy. What a lucky child. What a lucky audience of which I include myself. Thank you deeply for an excellent personal experience.

Historia
Prickly, wry, resistant to change yet ruthlessly honest and deeply empathetic, Olive Kitteridge is “a compelling life force” (San Francisco Chronicle). The New Yorker has said that Elizabeth Strout “animates the ordinary with an astonishing force”, and she has never done so more clearly than in this book, where the iconic Olive struggles to understand not only herself and her own life but the lives of those around her in the town of Crosby, Maine.

Delightful and noble romance
Revisado: 04-19-19
Juliette and Aaman are two souls brought together by fate. Theirs is not a concocted story, but one that grows naturally out of events that mirror world headlines and goings on. It is a story rich with character and dignity. I admire Sara Alexi’s ability to story tell and world build. I was completely transported out of my reality and immediately observant of others customs and lives. This is rich stew as I like to say when a loving piece of work becomes a part of my heart of hearts.

A Spark of Light
Revisado: 04-16-19
This work accurately details the struggle to make an informed decision and then live with it. It makes no judgements, but does make a powerful argument for readers to consider both sides of CHOICE.
I really appreciate the author’s candid portrayal of the way society almost heretically determines to prevent women from taking care of themselves after being sexually active with a male who then walks away from the act of sex without ever thinking about what’s left for the woman to do should she get pregnant.
I have always liked Ms. Picoult. Now, I profoundly respect her and will recommend A SPARK OF LIGHT to others asking them to please read it and truly stand in the shoes of another before judging.
