Historia
Some places seem too beautiful to be touched by horror. Summit Lake, nestled in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, is that kind of place. But two weeks ago, Becca Eckersley, a first-year law student and daughter of a powerful attorney, was brutally murdered there. Now the town is reeling with grief, and the police are baffled.

I'm easy to please with a book, but this was off.

Can’t get past this narrator!
Revisado: 06-03-23
As soon as I started listening, I felt like I was listening to a high school play, because the narrator sounded super young and the way it was narrated was very “valley girl meets southern belle”! Twangy and amateurish. It also made me crazy that all of the male voices sounded the exactly the same and very unnatural. Didn’t waste my time finishing it because it was a really unpleasant experience listening to her- even though the story itself wasn’t bad. I may read it instead as I stopped halfway through.

Historia
In the waning days of the Civil War, brothers Prentiss and Landry—freed by the Emancipation Proclamation—seek refuge on the homestead of George Walker and his wife, Isabelle. The Walkers, wracked by the loss of their only son to the war, hire the brothers to work their farm. Prentiss and Landry, meanwhile, plan to save money for the journey north and a chance to reunite with their mother, who was sold away when they were boys. Equal parts beauty and terror, The Sweetness of Water is an epic whose grandeur locates humanity and love amid the most harrowing circumstances.

It’s really slow...
Revisado: 06-20-21
I loved the premise of the book but find it hard to get excited about. The narration is clear but I find that he doesn’t keep my interest.
