Historia
Fifteen-year-olds Fenley Scurlock and Jason Liaw had both started businesses by the time they'd reached middle school. In this groundbreaking book, these young entrepreneurs interview leaders involved with brand-name businesses like MasterClass, Hallmark, IKEA, Parachute, and more. They ask questions every burgeoning exec wants to know: How can I get started? Is college worth it? What skills do I need? How did YOU make it big?

True Diversity with Interviews
Revisado: 06-26-24
Fenley Scurlock and Jason Liaw spoke at the Wharton Innovation Summit in Fairfax, Va. So I’m lucky in that I’ve met them before beginning this book. They are dynamic speakers and their Q&A was one of the sessions everyone spoke about the rest of the day. And their book lives up to the quality of their presentation. It’s in the style of a Q&A with a full cast reading the Q&As the authors did with entrepreneurs around the global.
If you are looking for true diversity with successful entrepreneurs speaking directly and honestly about what they learned in their business, this is the book for you. While Fenley and Jason said they wrote the book for young people dreaming of being an entrepreneur, it’s a great read (or listen!) for a professional of any age (especially if you are secretly dreaming of finally launching a business).
Highest recommendation.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Exceptional delivery and writing
Revisado: 03-03-23
Heartfelt, honest, and clear writing. I found someone who I could relate to in so many ways. And Jeannette McCurdy’s narration was unexpectedly original and perfect. I hadn’t realized she was a child actor, only that she wrote this book and the reviews were deservedly glowing. Once I realized that she knew a great deal about how to act, it made so much sense on how she can just slightly alter her tone and convey the exact emotion she wrote or change her inflection so you can imagine a totally different person speaking. And with her fast delivery, it was spot on for what it sounded like her internal voice might be like. I thoroughly enjoyed her writing and delivery, and only was a little sad when the book finished and I didn’t have more of her work to enjoy. Looking forward to more of her work in the future. Thank you for sharing such a raw and clear story, Jennette.
