Great story and listen
Revisado: 06-12-23
John did not disappoint. He spent a lot of time in the jungle and on the river getting to the heiress is my only complaint. AND that he had the heiress die at the end.

Historia
Crime reporter Joe Carpenter lost his wife and two daughters in the crash of Flight 353. Joe is unable to work, think, or do anything but grieve, and wait for his own death. Then Joe meets Rose, a woman who claims to be the crash’s sole survivor. But before Joe can probe further, the elusive Rose slips away and Joe is left with haunting questions: If Rose lived through the crash, is it possible his family could have survived it, too? Did the authorities conspire to hide what really happened that night? Joe’s search for the truth will shatter him - and force him to question everything he thinks he knows about life and death.

Sole Survivor
Revisado: 10-12-22
Good story with an interesting plot and twists. My only critique was it took a long time to build up and it ended too quickly. It didn’t adequately resolve everything for me at the end. There could’ve been another chapter. Good book overall.

Historia
On June 27, 1844, a mob stormed the jail in the dusty frontier town of Carthage, Illinois. Clamorous and angry, they were hunting down a man they saw as a grave threat to their otherwise quiet lives: The founding prophet of Mormonism, Joseph Smith. They wanted blood. At thirty-nine years old, Smith had already lived an outsized life. In addition to starting the Church of Latter-Day Saints and creating his own "Golden Bible" - the Book of Mormon - he had worked as a water-dowser and treasure hunter.

I've read better
Revisado: 10-28-20
It was OK. It focused a lot on polygamy and didn't go very deep regarding the other revelations and interactions of Joseph Smith. I'm glad I listened to it but it was a one time listen for me. The reader was good but mispronounced many common LDS words. (Small detail that was annoying because it conveyed that they didn't do their research.)

Great Story/Distracting Narration
Revisado: 04-15-19
I almost didn't listen to it as the narrator was so slow and deliberate in his presentation it was distracting. By speeding it up to 1.6x it became bearable. The story and writing were incredible. it gives the reader an idea for what it would be like aboard a vessel at that time. Would readily recommend it!

In 1912, at the height of World War I, brilliant Shakespeare expert Elizebeth Smith went to work for an eccentric tycoon on his estate outside Chicago. The tycoon had close ties to the US government, and he soon asked Elizebeth to apply her language skills to an exciting new venture: code breaking. There she met the man who would become her husband, groundbreaking cryptologist William Friedman.
