Wonderful story about the end of the world and the beginning of the world and the continuing of humanity. Beautifully written, beautifully read. There was something strange about choosing an English voice actor to do a story (with accents!) set in North America … but then, there’s something strange about the story anyway, and Jack aces the emotion…

While Klein’s politics don’t exactly line up with my own, I was genuinely impressed and fascinated at her take on modern politics and shifts in the far right and the “far out” in this brilliant book. It’s so impressive to be able to step back when we’re all so buried in this world and this way of being, and to see it with fresh eyes. I also love the incredibly humanist and loving/caring take she brings to it all - this is not a book that just obliterates the nut-jobs (although she does put them in their place from time to time!) - there is compassion throughout.

I think this book is amazing, I have listened to it at least 6 times. The story line is so fascinating and it really engages the listener. I would recommend this book to anyone age 14 and up because it does have some strong themes and language.
Overall this book is amazing!

This book is an entertaining "live a better life" book, and amusingly written. It's not going to enlighten you, and some chapters were a bit inaccurate in terms of making big pronouncements that aren't necessarily empirical ... but when you get life-skills-entertainingly-delivered I think that's OK. If you want real life changing, listen to something like Essentialism or Sam Harris' Waking Up...

It’s difficult to change your worldview. Generally, people don’t. We vote the same way as our parents. We have the same religion. The things that were real important to them are real important to us.

Reading this book does require you to be ready to change your worldview. It also requires you to be open minded. This isn’t because it’s fantastical - in fact it’s the opposite - but Harris’ observations, based in empirical research as much as philosophy really do challenge the reader to think about life and our own minds differently.

I think it will change my life.

I gave the performance 4 stars but will just clarify that it’s a great performance - it’s the audio engineering that could be better.

Otherwise wow, an amazing audio book. A persuasive, research-based argument. I think there may be just one more element: human beings’ desire to deliberately self-destruct/sabotage (especially when young), that can’t be easily counterbalanced with common sense. But perhaps that’s not really the audience.

I’ll listen again.

I had read this book before, but got the Audible version for my daughter once I thought she was old enough. I was gripped! Pullman's reading and the acting are just better than anything I've ever heard in Audible fiction before. Totally stunning.

Once I've read the books to my kids they love the way these dramatisations bring them to life, and listen to all of these again and again!
