Historia
“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.” So begins one of the most beloved hymns of all time. This is the autobiography of the man who penned those words. John Newton, the self-proclaimed “wretch”,was an active slave trader for several years until, on a homeward voyage through a violent storm, he experienced what he was later to refer to as his “great deliverance.” He tells of the dramatic, real-life events that led him from sin and bondage to a life transformed by God’s grace.

God’s Grace is praised and proved in the life of Mr Newton
Revisado: 09-10-21
By the end of this beautiful book, my eyes watered, and my faith drank to grow again. Christian, reading this book will be helpful. The best help will not come from the mere story, though it is incredible and full of God’s providential goodness. The best help, I think, will come as you study Mr. Newton's method of interpreting his own life. May we all learn his technique because it was a method taught in the school of the gospel.

Excellent, inspirational, convicting, and helpful.
Revisado: 11-01-18
This book was excellent. The flow of thought was easy to follow. The language was simple and to the point. The content was engaging and informative.
This book was inspirational. John Calvin was no doubt a genius, but not a genius who sat idle. He was a busy and hard working genius. This quality of labor is something every expositor is able to mimic, while we may be unable to mimic his genius.
This book was convincing. Do we expositors handle the practice of preaching with due reverence? Do we come to the pulpit Coram Deo? Do we expound Soli Deo Gloria?
This book was helpful. Showing how Calvin approaches the art of preaching is valuable. There is so much value in the example of Calvin’s approach to be gleaned and applied as an expositor who wishes to point his congregation to Christ as doers and not hearers only.

Historia
Too often, Christians today either sensationalize the subject of spiritual warfare by obsessing over demon possession, exorcisms, binding the devil, and rebuking demons or they minimize the idea and are unprepared for the real struggle they face against principalities and powers. Pastors Brian Borgman and Rob Ventura provide a balanced approach that exposes the fictions and superstitions surrounding this vital doctrine and at the same time reveal the unseen realities of this struggle.

It’s good.

There is much in this book that makes it a worthy read. From addressing the natural tendency to either deny or overindulge in the subject to walking through Eph 6 to help the reader think carefully about the reality of spiritual warfare, this book is helpful.
