Wow

This is an inspiring story of a kid that rose above his mistakes and misfortunes to be great, and it is magnificently executed by the author himself.
Being from a poor region of a poor country myself, I felt really engaged with his story. To be honest, at times his story is so fantastic that I wasn't sure if I should believe him or not. After going through the whole book, I not only believe but I am at awe and inspired by him.
I'm not a religious person by any means, quite the contrary, but still I can appreciate what he went through by my own experiences.
I feel happy that I got to learn about Remi and his story, and I already miss listening to more of the book.

A gem!
Revisado: 09-09-19
Bachelor's book has resonated with a lot of my own thinking, being from a religious family whose religion I also reject, and introduced me to many ideas and the history of budhism. The author's style is refreshing. Loved it!

Historia
Garry Kasparov's 1997 chess match against the IBM supercomputer Deep Blue was a watershed moment in the history of technology. It was the dawn of a new era in artificial intelligence: A machine capable of beating the reigning human champion at this most cerebral game. That moment was more than a century in the making, and in this breakthrough audiobook, Kasparov reveals his astonishing side of the story for the first time. He describes how it felt to strategize against an implacable, untiring opponent with the whole world watching.

Well informed and interesting
Revisado: 05-11-18
I'm in the AI field. Most of what I read about it outside the academic and technical groups is, quite frankly, BS. Not Kasparov. He is (to me) surprisingly well-informed about the technical aspects of AI and Machine Learning and gives, among many other interesting things in the book, his point of view about the technology and its development. Great book!

A pause-resisitng narrative about Marissa Mayer's efforts to remake Yahoo as well as her own rise from Stanford University undergrad to CEO of a $30 billion corporation by the age of 38. When Yahoo hired star Google executive Mayer to be its CEO in 2012 employees rejoiced. They put posters on the walls throughout Yahoo's California headquarters. On them there was Mayer's face and one word: Hope. But one year later, Mayer sat in front of those same employees in a huge cafeteria on Yahoo's campus and took the beating of her life.

Wow!
Revisado: 01-19-15
This book is a masterpiece. If you're interested in the history of Internet companies like Yahoo, Google, Facebook and how the people who manage them think and work, then you should give this book a try!
I started using the Internet when Yahoo! was just past its peak, and Google was already winning the race, but even so I recalled a lot of memories of that era, and a lot of things that sometimes you think about a little and dismiss in fact have huge consequences for the people who are actually responsible for the product or the company. This book was truly eye opening for me, and its style is light and sometimes funny. This is my first book of this kind, and I'll definitely look for more like these in the future! Loved the experience.

Betterness: Economics for Humans is a powerful call to arms for a post-capitalist economy. Umair Haque argues that just as positive psychology revolutionized our understanding of mental health by recasting the field as more than just treating mental illness, we need to rethink our economic paradigm. Why? Because business as we know it has reached a state of diminishing returns - though we work harder and harder, we never seem to get anywhere.

Made me think
Revisado: 01-04-15
It started a little bit "slow", but by the end it had definitely caught my attention.
Although I really liked the overall idea, I started the book a bit skeptical. The (maybe unnecessary) use of uncommon or plainly made up words also added to my initial discomfort. Maybe this is another good idea that just won't work because it isn't practical, I thought. Now, I think I was wrong!
As the book develops, things start to add up and make sense. The author argues that some of the changes are already under way, and then he makes you think by citing examples of companies that are already looking forward and not only making changes, but bringing changes to their customers and the community. That's when I started realising that I've already noticed some changes myself, but I haven't yet connected the dots.
The book is short, and good enough so that it's worth listening to so that you can judge it for yourself, whether you agree with the author or not. But one thing I think is for sure, this short book will make you think.
