Historia
February 1862. The Civil War is less than one year old. The fighting has begun in earnest, and the nation has begun to realize it is in for a long, bloody struggle. Meanwhile, President Lincoln’s beloved eleven-year-old son, Willie, lies upstairs in the White House, gravely ill. In a matter of days, despite predictions of a recovery, Willie dies and is laid to rest in a Georgetown cemetery. “My poor boy, he was too good for this earth,” the president says at the time. “God has called him home.”

This might be a better book in written form. It was hard to follow just by listening.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Wonderful!

The three female narrators were great and it was easy to follow along when they changed points of view. I would recommend this to my friends!

Historia
In 1937 F. Scott Fitzgerald was a troubled, uncertain man whose literary success was long over. In poor health, with his wife consigned to a mental asylum and his finances in ruins, he struggled to make a new start as a screenwriter in Hollywood. By December of 1940, he would be dead of a heart attack. Those last three years of Fitzgerald's life, often obscured by the legend of his earlier Jazz Age glamour, are the focus of Stewart O'Nan's gorgeously and gracefully written novel.

Good Story
Revisado: 04-14-15
The voice changes thine throughout and it wasn't too noticeable until the last 1/4 and then it happened frequently. Not sure why. Overall, good narrator and the story was good. Slow for the first half, but I found myself falling in love with Fitzgerald.

Historia
Oscar Wilde’s classic story of a young man who sells his soul in exchange for eternal beauty and youth continues to thrill generations of readers. Written by a man who was every bit as flamboyant and unconventional as its hero, The Picture of Dorian Gray is as haunting today as when it first shocked the British public in 1891. Dorian Gray, young, intelligent, sophisticated, gazes on his freshly painted portrait.

I have read this novel, but it has been awhile so I thought I would "read" it again. It was rough. I don't know if it was the story or the reader. I was just simply bored.

Good Read
Revisado: 02-04-13
This novel is long and has a lot of characters so it is hard to listen without the novel in front of you. I use it for high school seniors. It is still better than me reading it to them or vice versa.

Historia
Pygmalion remains one of the most popular stories, but mainly in the medium of the musical; the evergreen My Fair Lady. But much of the charm and wit comes from the words and timing in Shaw's original play. Here are the characters of Professor Higgins, his friend Colonel Pickering, and their charge, Eliza Doolittle.

Classroom Use
Revisado: 12-11-12
I used this version for my high school senior English classroom. It was much better than having the students read it aloud, but it was missing parts from the play itself (even though it says it is unabridged). I don't know if that is an editor's issue with the version we use in class or how Shaw printed it. It was easy to figure out though.

Historia
Frank Money is an angry, self-loathing veteran of the Korean War who, after traumatic experiences on the front lines, finds himself back in racist America with more than just physical scars. His home may seem alien to him, but he is shocked out of his crippling apathy by the need to rescue his medically abused younger sister and take her back to the small Georgia town they come from and that he's hated all his life. This is a deeply moving novel about an apparently defeated man finding his manhood - and his home.

Good Read!
Revisado: 12-11-12
I enjoyed this novel for the simple fact that is was written by Toni Morrison and read by Toni Morrison. I had to speed up the narrator though because she is a slow reader. I really enjoy her novels and this one did not disappoint. It isn't my favorite Morrison book, but it was a good story!

Historia
From Ragtime and Billy Bathgate to The Book of Daniel, World's Fair, and The March, the novels of E. L. Doctorow comprise one of the most substantive achievements of modern American fiction. Now, with Homer & Langley, this master novelist has once again created an unforgettable work. Homer and Langley Collyer are brothers - the one blind and deeply intuitive, the other damaged into madness, or perhaps greatness, by mustard gas in the Great War.

Fabulous Read!
Revisado: 12-11-12
I think what made this novel perfect for me was the narrator! He did a fantastic job of differentiating between the characters and pausing at just the right places. I really enjoyed the story as well. After I finished the book, I went online to read about the real Collyer Brothers. Fascinating!
