What a disappointment!

Fully satisfying

The three-book story has everything and is enjoyably believable. Lucy Paterson makes it the complete experience. I had listened to the whole series before I realized it was the same person voicing all the characters! Ms Paterson is excellent. Her ability to not only do different voices is unmatched, she does so seamlessly during full conversational exchanges. She really sells all of the individual characters through her vocals.
It is easy to see how Luke Jennings’s stories were made into a series. Too bad the series writers didn’t follow his lead more closely. They had the perfect cast and story but mistakenly thought they could improve on something that was perfect as written.

Difficult story

I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I opted for this book. The story is so horrific and prolonged that I felt I was getting a taste of what all of the people who became caught in Shelly’s web experienced. However, in no way do I intend to minimize, diminish or make light of what they went through. I can only imagine how their lives continue to be affected now, even after they’ve been able to make new lives for themselves.
I wish there was an educational epilogue—something, anything—to let the reader/listener find something helpful or hopeful in this story. I’d like to know how to recognize and be of assistance to children who may be experiencing these sorts of experiences in their home. I felt the story ended without offering anything helpful or positive and little satisfaction in knowing some measure of justice was eventually meted out.
