Historia
Shari Franke’s childhood was a constant battle for survival. Her mother, Ruby Franke, enforced a severe moral code while maintaining a façade of a picture-perfect family for their wildly popular YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which documented the day-to-day life of raising six children for a staggering 2.5 million subscribers. But a darker truth lurked beneath the surface—Ruby’s wholesome online persona masked a more tyrannical parenting style than anyone could have imagined.

Eloquently told and delivered
Revisado: 01-12-25
I never watched either YouTube channel, I’ve always found family vlogging extremely cringeworthy for a myriad of reasons. I of course saw the news stories and commentary online and read about some of it. I was super curious to hear more about this because honestly the stories and things I heard online all repeated 4 or 5 different bits of information and used the same similarly few video examples from her YouTube channel. I was curious for the inside scoop. Shari, hearing about the feeling that your mother didn’t like you as a small child was heartbreaking. I’m so glad you had access to therapy and people who showed you what unconditional and genuine love are. You did a great job of sharing your story in a levelheaded way. Being myself someone who doesn’t believe in god or Jesus, or organized religion of any sort and has a specific distain for the Mormon religion for a multitude of reasons, I was almost impressed with the support you received from the men who served as your bishops. They had hints of respectable qualities in the way they counseled you, that was until it came to the situation that got your temple suggest/referral (I can’t remember the term right now) taken away which is clearly a punishment - to take away access to your ability to worship a god you were looking to for comfort and solace in a place you felt safe and cared for during a time you needed it the most is incredibly backward. And the fact that the other person involved was not originally punished in any manner just reinforced my disgust with male dominated institutions such as organized religion. I greatly appreciated the fact that your faith and belief didn’t dominate the narrative as this made it possible to finish and enjoy.

With the help of his best friend, Rowley, Greg hatches a plan to make a scary movie and become rich and famous in the process. But is doubling down on moviemaking a smart plan? Or is it just a recipe for doubling Greg's troubles?

This is a child… right?
Revisado: 12-06-24
I LOVE Diary of a Wimpy Kid or DWK and was thrilled when there were podcasts, but I was even MORE thrilled when I found out they were FREE. To be honest I would think a KID wrote this not a GROWN MAN (no offense!) Jeff Kinney has definitely held onto his child hood and NEVER let go! That is what you should do!!! Be like Jeff! Being a middle schooler I could ONE HUNDRED percent relate to this series. I was a little disappointed, just a smidgen, that Ramon didn’t try to change his voice a little for different people. For example go deeper for Rodrick and Dad and higher for Manny and Mom. But overall awesome!
Again I am a middle schooler so when I go to the school library I head straight to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid section. Buttttttt of course all the goofs and idiots who can barely read a word get them before me! (They only get them to look at pictures 🙄) I’m in advanced and read a lot of novels but I will always go for DWK book any day of the week! Keep going Jeff!

Not sure what I'm missing...
Revisado: 05-02-17
I'm surprised at my disappointment in this book, as I was sold on this new author by multiple 4+ star audio books. I'm not the person who has to finish a book once I start, so I did not finish this, but I did listen to quite a bit before deciding to return it.
My main issues were the narrator and authenticity of character behavior. While the narrator definitely wasn't the worse I've ever heard, and this fact alone didn't completely turn me off from the book, I was annoyed by the voice change when reading dialogue by the male characters. It was very chees

Revisado: 02-22-17
I listened to Janet's podcast a few times (as well as followed her on social media) before buying this book, and I was really hoping that her tone in the audio book was better than that which she used on her podcast. No such luck! On her podcast she was answering listeners questions and she might as well have just outright laughed at the people she was 'helping' before answering their question. The whole time she spoke it sounded as if she was laughing on the inside. Unfortunately the reading of this book contains the same condescending tone. I've never heard SUCH a condescending tone in anyone before. That being said, I didn't get very far in the book before returning it.

And now I wait...
Revisado: 11-19-16
Wonderful and engaging story, an eloquent and fluent reading by the author (I've loved hearing Trevor Noah speak since the first time I saw him on television), and very educational at the same time. However, I really want to know the story of how he ended up in America as the host of The Daily Show. He touches on the beginnings of his entertainment career in this book, but the main story is, as the title suggests, focused in his early life - from birth until early adulthood.... so I'm waiting Mr. Noah!!! I'm waiting for more of your seamlessly enchanting story telling!!! 😬
