Historia
Editors Randy Chandler and Cheryl Mullenax put the call out to horror writers and editors of extreme stories, the hardcore stuff that breaks boundaries and trashes taboos, the transgressive tales you can't "unread" (as Chuck Palahniuk says). Some of the stories you'll find here are loaded with very graphic descriptions of violence, sex, and depravities, while others may contain only one shocking moment of brutality. In others, the hardcore aspect may be less graphic and subtler than you might expect.

Absolutely quality and chilling short stories
Revisado: 08-26-16
Wow, when the title says "hardcore horror" they are not joking. If you are going to get this book make sure you are braced and ready. I made the mistake of listening to "Bored with Brutality" on the train, and I must have been making some interesting faces at the exceptionally vivid descriptions, because I got some concerned looks. After that I listened while curled up in my bed with the covers over my head, delightfully frightened and disgusted.
I absolutely loved this anthology, but I had to listen to the short stories as individual chapters, and not all in one go. I was introduced to some really exceptional new authors, and I will be running off to track down more of their works.
The sound quality was excellent, and the narration was proficient and did not detract from the stories at all. Good diction and pacing.

Fun and pulpy with average narration
Revisado: 08-26-16
The story itself was a great pulpy romp! Short and hot, it set up series nicely, and left me awaiting the next ones in the series. The main characters were excellently characterized, especially for such a short introduction, but their physical descriptions were a bit overblown, especially for them to change so quickly. The smut was well written with enough references to the reptilian nature of the raptors to make it interesting and different, but there were no extreme kinks or appendages.
My recommendation is that people pick up the text version of this story. Having a female narrator for explicit gay sex was rather jarring, especially because her attempts at male voices were terrible. This is pulp, so overwrought is a part of the fun, but even setting aside the voices, the cadence used for dialogue was unnatural, and really distracted from the story. The audio itself was clear and crisp.

Had to stop listening - racist
Revisado: 08-26-16
This story started off incredibly well. The characters were all well conceived, the narration is truly fantastic, and the setting was true to the time. I was thoroughly enjoying the story when the first problematic phrase came up in regards to aboriginal people. I finally had to turn the story off when the term "feather adorned savages" came up.
I was appalled, and was not expecting to hear about how some "savages" were capable of understanding "the good word", especially with the known history of residential schools and cultural genocide.

Solid western
Revisado: 07-28-16
It has been a long time since I have read a western, and this was a solid and entertaining way to ease back into the genre. The writing was skilled, the plot and main characters all enjoyable, and while nothing in the story was ground breaking, it certainly kept me entertained while waiting for my flight. Some of the descriptions were a bit unpolished, and some dialogue was stilted, but those are minor things that did not take away from the story in any capacity. I am looking forward to listening to more stories in the series, and to seeing how Nation's writing evolves.
I would be remiss if I did not compliment Bennett in his reading: his voice was absolutely perfect for a western story, and he delivered a truly excellent performance.

Excellent narration, ridiculous story
Revisado: 07-28-16
I really enjoy Walker's stories, but this one just did not really do it for me. He writes well, but even for a light and fluffy shifter smut novel, this story stretched the bounds of believability. If you are looking for a short m/m m-preg story, I recommend checking out some of Walker's other works.
Also, it must be said that Ross is an incredible narrator. I have listened to him before, and I appreciate his diction and absolutely phenomenal way of performing dialogue.

Light, fluffy, and totally enjoyable
Revisado: 07-28-16
What an enjoyable listen! I love shifter stories, and this one was a lot of fun. Foxxe's writing was incredibly engaging, the smut was smoking hot, and I found myself actually invested in the action and the love story. If you are looking for a well narrated romance novel with well written action and some actual plot, you will enjoy this book.

Quick, fluffy smut
Revisado: 06-24-16
If you enjoy shifters, male pregnancy, can suspend your disbelief for an hour, and just want to "relax" with a bit of mindless fluff, this story is for you. The plot is a bit thin, and the dialogue a bit stilted (especially the first couple of minutes), but the writing itself is pretty solid, especially for fantasy escapism. Who doesn't like the idea of finding your happily ever after from a one night stand? Most importantly for me, the love scenes are smoking and the narration provided by David Ross was phenomenal: it really elevated the listening experience. Even in dialogue heavy scenes I was never confused as to who was speaking, and I found myself getting hot under the collar during the smutty scenes. I will definitely be looking for more stories read by him.
I did receive this story for free (in exchange for a fair and unbiased review), and I would say this is overall a 3.5/5. It isn't pretending to be anything it isn't, and what this story was, was thoroughly enjoyable. Walker embraced the cliches and romance genre, delivered some excellent porn, and left me satisfied.

Light and Fluffy Fun
Revisado: 06-21-16
This story melts my heart. It is light and fluffy with a heart, and I am an absolute sucker for stories like it, especially when done well: How to Howl at the Moon is done incredibly well. Shifter stories can be hit or miss, depending on the abilities of the author, and Easton scored a hit with this one. The two main characters are an absolute delight - well thought out, very distinct voices, and there was a really original take on the shifter concept that drew me in. There are a few moments of seriousness, which is important when it comes to making a story realistic, but don't come to this expecting a huge, dark, involved plot.
Matthew Shaw was an absolute joy to listen to. The sound quality was excellent, and he gave evocative voices to every character, no matter how large or small their role. I will definitely be looking for more stories he has narrated, and I am looking forward to listening to future collaborations between these two.

Brute leads a lonely life in a world where magic is commonplace. He is seven and a half feet of ugly, and of disreputable descent. No one, including Brute, expects him to be more than a laborer. But heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and when he is maimed while rescuing a prince, Brute's life changes abruptly. He is summoned to serve at the palace in Tellomer as a guard for a single prisoner. It sounds easy but turns out to be the challenge of his life.

Heartbreakingly wonderful
Revisado: 06-21-16
Fielding and Kelly absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one. The story was heartfelt, the characters were well developed, and the romance felt like a natural and inevitable love story between two individual people as opposed to two stereotypical caricatures who were together for the readers enjoyment: Brute is a truly immersive story. Tears were shed, my heart ached, and I became truly fond of not only the lead characters, but also the supporting cast. If you like to listen to a story that has plot and reason behind the romance, you will thoroughly enjoy Brute.
Kelly's oratory skills are second to none. The sound quality was crisp and clear, every character had their own unique voice, and where a less skilled narrator may have brought a level of ridiculousness or ham-handedness to Brute's voice, he brought a level of gentleness and compassion that I was thrilled to hear. Truly a quality audiobook.
