Historia
More than any other presidency, Barack Obama's eight years in the White House were defined by young people - 20-somethings who didn't have much experience in politics (or anything else, for that matter) yet suddenly found themselves in the most high-stakes office building on earth. David Litt was one of those 20-somethings. After graduating from college in 2008, he went straight to the Obama campaign. In 2011 he became one of the youngest White House speechwriters in history.

Historia
"Dear Dope Black Girl, you don’t know me, but I know you. I know you because I am you! We are magic, light, and stars in the universe.” So begins a letter that Tamara Winfrey Harris received as part of her Letters to Black Girls project, where she asked black women to write honest, open, and inspiring letters of support to young black girls aged 13 to 21. Her call went viral, resulting in a hundred personal letters from black women around the globe that cover topics such as identity, self-love, parents, violence, grief, mental health, sex, and sexuality.

Powerful and Life Giving
Revisado: 02-22-21
An excellent listen from start to finish! Brilliantly performed and packed with love, honesty and experience. It directly addresses the challenges faced by black girls and provides understanding and hope. While written for black girls, this empowering book has content that is valuable throughout life and for all women and girls. The positive messages and sage advice are timeless. I see this book being a gift from black women to the important girls and sisters in their life, and as an added gem to the therapist’s collection to recommend to girls, women, mothers and daughters. I highly recommend this powerful book!

Historia
For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Historia
Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.

I enjoy Brene Brown's books. This book is solid. It includes some concepts from her other books, but combines it with new research on addressing hard situations. Brene is an excellent story teller and weaves this into her research findings, making the concepts easy to relate to. I always come away with some new thoughts and ideas on improving my understanding of others and shaping the way I react to the world.

Historia
In Shock is a riveting first-hand account from a young critical care physician, who in the passage of a moment is transfigured into a dying patient. This transposition, coincidentally timed at the end of her medical training, instantly lays bare the vast chasm between the conventional practice of medicine and the stark reality of the prostrate patient.

Excellent book that I hope anyone in healthcare reads. Dr. Awdish's experience and her ability to put it into purpose in creating new education for practitioners to impact healthcare is fantastic. She brings back the much-needed focus on empathy, the patient experience, but also of teaching, allowing and expecting healthcare providers to be emotionally available during care. I loved this book and recommend it highly.

Rachel Hollis is easy to listen to. Part of me wished this book had been around about 10 years ago, as it captured some lessons I learned the hard way, but it was good to remember some of those lessons and also to be pushed in some areas to take care of me and to expand my perspective.

This is a solid book. It isn't my favorite from Elizabeth Gilbert, but that is more due to the topic than her writing. I am not the most creative person, nor have I pursued a creative career, however, she did push me to feel more confident in developing my own creativity for myself for my own reasons. Overall a good read.
