Historia
Already cited on the floor of Congress and discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a book all Americans should read, One Second After is the story of a war scenario that could become all too terrifyingly real. Based upon a real weapon - the Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) - which may already be in the hands of our enemies, it is a truly realistic look at the awesome power of a weapon that can destroy the entire United States.

Perhaps it should be required reading...
Revisado: 08-06-18
I'd put off listening to this one, knowing it could be dark. I like this type of 'story', but this one could easily become real, which the author explores in depth not only in the book, but in his short commentary at the end. The narrator was excellent, the pace very good, and the book itself every bit as good as I'd hoped. It paints a portrait of America with no power, sent in an instant back in time 150 years or more. No lights? That is only the beginning - most cars no longer work, no refrigeration, no transport of medical supplies or food, the ramifications are endless...and deadly. What would we do, would we survive?

Daily Deal Delight!
Revisado: 11-13-17
I picked this up on a whim as a daily deal, which I don't often purchase. But the story sounded intriguing. Little did I know this would be a story I couldn't wait to get back to, and even though I knew early on that a critical choice was going to have to be made, it had me talking to the Captain aloud in my car, urging him to make the right one. I won't tell you if he did.
The trip itself really made this novel, so clearly narrated and full of adventure. It was easy to care for the characters, and hard to let the story end.

Historia
What would you do if the world burned around you while the sky rained down gasoline? John Hilt fled to Mexico, hoping to escape the police investigation centering only on him. If he could get away for a while, perhaps Detectives Tremock and Merchent would look elsewhere. Perhaps the cops' heat on him would dissipate.

Who knows what lies in the heart of a man?
Revisado: 02-23-17
What made the experience of listening to Hurricane the most enjoyable?
The great writing. The style and communication just flows. The back and forth of the timeline worked so well, giving present actions while back-filling with past history at just the right pace to keep the suspense.
What other book might you compare Hurricane to and why?
Naturally the first two in the series - one absolutely must listen to them in order.
Which character – as performed by Charles Kahlenberg – was your favorite?
Harry - the narrator captured his wickedness and heartless character perfectly.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I love thrillers, so not an extreme reaction per se - but it will stay with me a long time for the realistic glimpse into the mind of a serial killer who could seem so normal until his final disintegration.
Any additional comments?
The ending was unexpected, and worked so well. It could have gone several directions. I don't wish to give an spoilers by saying more!

Historia
John Hilt's life may look perfect, but his problem is growing; he can't stop killing. And his dead friend, Harry, absolutely loves it. John, lost in this murderous obsession, doesn't see the world collapsing around him. Police officers Alan Tremock and Susan Merchent think they found their man and will do anything to take him down. They're connecting the dots, and realizing wherever John Hilt goes, people die. Only one issue, though: Harry wants John to kill them, too.

Impossible to not finish this series!
Revisado: 01-28-17
What did you love best about Red Rain: Lightning Strikes?
How the flow continued from Red Rain: Clouds Gathering, the suspense builds even more. The author writes very well, smooth transitions from past to present to add depth and character to the story. I appreciated that we spend more time with young John, including his time overseas and how events transpired with young Harry.
What other book might you compare Red Rain: Lightning Strikes to and why?
Certainly the first in the series - these are not stand-alone novels. That said, the storyline is so rich that it is near impossible to consider listening to one or two of the books without finishing the full series.
Have you listened to any of Charles Kahlenberg’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've heard this narrator in "Clouds Gathering" - I didn't like his voice so much to begin with...but it has grown on me and I am liking his narration of this second book in the series.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The moments when Clara was discussed; her brutality and her daughter's ability to overcome it -- only to see it emerging in her own son.
Any additional comments?
I was provided this book by the author in return for a fair and honest review, which I have freely given. If I did not like this book I would absolutely state this openly. In truth, I love this well written series and cannot wait for the third book to be available from Audible.

Intriguing glimpse of the mind of a serial killer
Revisado: 12-08-16
If you could sum up Clouds Gathering in three words, what would they be?
Suspense, tension and anticipation
Who was your favorite character and why?
Harry, for some odd reason. I wanted to know his story, how he became part of John's psyche.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator was difficult, I think a different voice would have helped this book tremendously. The depth and gravelly quality was difficult to hear while driving (I listen almost exclusively while driving). For the first time I had to change the audio controls a great deal to be able to comfortably hear this narrator well.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
After I got about of a third of the way in, I didn't want to stop listening.
Any additional comments?
I received this in return for an honest review. This is a series not to be missed, I appreciated the glimpse into this first volume and will be listening to the rest soon!

Amazing story, and a daily deal as well!
Revisado: 11-15-16
Where does The Girl with All the Gifts rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Upper 10%, truly enjoyed this unexpected story
Who was your favorite character and why?
Melanie, of course!
Which scene was your favorite?
There were so many that I appreciated -- maybe when Melanie found the children in the theatre and her reaction.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Oh yes, but had to take it in tiny bites (pun intended). First book in a while that had me really anticipating the next opportunity to listen. I didn't want it to end.
Any additional comments?
I took a chance on this one, since it was a daily deal. No regrets, so happy I stepped out of my usual readings to try something different. The story was mesmerizing and the narrator was absolutely perfect for this story.

I took a chance on this title because it was on sale. I truly enjoyed this tale that is so different from the types of books I usually listen to. The story was engaging and often funny, you really felt for the characters. It was well narrarated and well worth the listen.
