Historia
What could be easier than preventing a servant girl from marrying a prince, especially for 3 clever witches? But Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, and Magrat Garlick face more than they bargained for when they journey to the distant city of Genua. For one thing, their power is limited to Mrs. Gogol's weak voodoo spells, a one-eyed cat, and a second-hand magic wand that only works on pumpkins. Furthermore, the Godmother has made Destiny an offer it can't refuse. Do servant girls have to marry the prince?

alas; longing for stephen briggs
Revisado: 02-20-15
What did you like best about Witches Abroad? What did you like least?
story + hilarious Mardi Gras aka Genua; the charming fairy tales twisted by Pratchet's sharp sense of irony
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mrs Gogol and The Baron. Planer does a good job with both, as well as Mrs. Pleasant. Nanny's postcards work well too; and Greebo's antics will have you LOL'ing
What didn’t you like about Nigel Planer’s performance?
What he does to Granny Weatherwax is criminal; creaky, crackling and very annoying;throws the whole narrative off. This is one of Pratchet's best, most intricate comedies, ruined by Planer's insistence on female whining voices I'm not even going to attempt Lords and Ladies, destroyed by the same
Do you think Witches Abroad needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
It stands alone but dovetails superbly with Wyrd Sisters, masquerade, etc
Any additional comments?
If it's not possible to get Stephen Briggs for the above, please convince N. Planer to retrain; it's not that he can't do the voices, he just doesn't choose to; Other victims include Sgt. Colon, Drumnot; uneven Veterinari, Lady Margolotta. So much of Pratchett is wonderful sly humor that requires understanding of the satire; often lost by Planer's rhythms and voices for passaged like the vampire never rising from a cat

There, the Mediterranean spirit stirs the souls of Mrs Arbuthnot, Mrs Wilkins, Lady Caroline Dester, and Mrs Fisher, and remarkable changes occur.

Historia
This is the classic story of the young Theseus - Prince of Troizen, King of Eleusis and Athens, slayer of the Minotaur. Mary Renault's powerful novel captures the modern imagination by weaving myth, legend, history, and fiction into the story of a young hero's search for his destiny, or moira. If you like The King Must Die, try The Bull from the Sea.

Michael York! record unabridged!
Revisado: 01-04-15
Where does The King Must Die rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book is too good to abridge
Who was your favorite character and why?
Theseus. Boy grows to manhood; true to Renault's superb portrait of this critical period in Greek history
Which character – as performed by Michael York – was your favorite?
Michael York renders each of the voices so that all the characters come alive, and the descriptive passages are as spell-binding as the dialogue
If you could rename The King Must Die, what would you call it?
The title is central; a king must be willing to be sacrificed for his people; a princess to sacrifice to save the children
Any additional comments?
PLEASE GET MICHAEL YORK TO NARRATE AN UNABRIDGED COPY OF THIS BOOK AND ITS COMPANION, THE BULL FROM THE SEA. I USED TO TEACH THIS AS PART OF THE CURRICULUM FOR THE NINTH GRADE, AND NONE OF THEM WERE EVER BORED.

Historia
Considered Keith Roberts' masterwork, this novel consists of linked short stories (six measures and a coda) of a 20th century in which the Roman Catholic Church controls the Western world, and has done so since Queen Elizabeth of England was assassinated in 1588. The Protestant Reformation never happened, and the world is kept in a Dark Age of steam-power transportation, with no allowance for electrical power, by a tyrannical Rome.
