Historia
April 7, 1944 - This date marks the successful escape of two Slovak prisoners from one of the most heavily-guarded and notorious concentration camps of Nazi Germany. The escapees, Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler, fled over 100 miles to be the first to give the graphic and detailed descriptions of the atrocities of Auschwitz. Originally published in the early 1960s, I Escaped from Auschwitz is the striking autobiography of none other than Rudolf Vrba himself. Vrba details his life leading up to, during, and after his escape from his 21-month internment in Auschwitz.

Heartbreaking
Revisado: 02-24-25
This is one of the most heartbreaking books I’ve ever listened to. I always knew about the story of the holocaust but I never heard a first hand account about what happened. I pray nothing like this never happens again and my heart goes out to the family’s and victims.

Thanks for this episode
Revisado: 02-14-25
I grew up in Englewood in the ’90s. My mother Sherry Hunt was tragically murdered by one of the offenders who was later released due to the torture scandal. That same individual also took the life of her friend, Lovey.
I appreciate the discussion on white flight, but it’s equally important to acknowledge Black professional flight—I understand the reason behind both. The crack era is nearly behind us, and meth hasn’t gained the same foothold in urban Black communities. As the children of the crack epidemic, we’ve seen the devastating effects of drug abuse, which is why hard drugs aren’t as prevalent today. I do want to point out the generation under us never seen how bad things were.
Now, I live in West Pullman, where I’m investing in some of the most affordable real estate you’ll find in any major U.S. city. These neighborhoods are not as dense due to abandoned homes and vacant lots. Many of the homes are zombie homes which were foreclosed on during the housing crisis, financial institutions avoided title change leaving properties in limbo. 6 vacant lots on my block are owned by LLCs.
This was a fantastic podcast—my first time listening, and I really enjoyed it. Keep up the great work!

Historia
This is the story of a Mob lawyer turned mole with a million-dollar contract on his head, a man who has clanged back and forth between sin and sainthood like a church bell clapper - a turbulent youth, a stint on Chicago's police force, law school, and then the inner sanctum of Chicago's leading mobsters and corrupt political officials. With wild abandon he chased crooked acquittals for the likes of Pat Marcy, an Al Capone protégé, who had become the Mob's key political operative.

Few figures have had such an influence on history as Jesus of Nazareth. His teachings have inspired discussion, arguments, even war. Yet few have ever held forth as movingly as Jesus on the need for peace, forgiveness, and mercy.

Historia
Freeway Rick Ross: The Untold Autobiography is an intimate look at the day-to-day dealings of a drug kingpin in the heart of the ghetto. It's also the story of a boy born in poverty in Texas who grew up in a single-parent household in the heart of South Central, who was pushed through the school system each year and came out illiterate. His options were few, and he turned to drug dealing. This untold autobiography is not only personal, but also historical in its implications.
