I have been an amateur student of Chinese/Taiwan history (especially political history) for years. I've read about a dozen first class expositions on Chinese history and political history. When I read (heard) Dr Kissinger's "On China,", I was almost literally stunned. I cannot believe that I did not discover Dr Kissinger's work before. The book was a paradigm shift for me. I had this particular book on my Wish List for a long while, but passed it because, I am ashamed to admit, I was prejudiced by what I wrongly believed was an anticipated bias of Dr Kissinger, admittedly in complete ignorance, given what I perceived the part he played in recent American history. I simply ignored Dr Kissinger's rôle in geopolitical history because I did not have, for any apparent reason, the patience to listen to him -- even though I grew up during his tenure in international diplomacy. BIG mistake. So, bottom, line: Regardless of your political bent, you must read this to appreciate the perspective of what I believe is one of the most influential people in modern American history, someone who also has a firm grasp on political history in general. Unless you spend time pondering Dr Kissinger's work, you are cheating yourself of some valuable insight and truncating your worldview dramatically. PS: I was not pleased by Dr Kissinger's APPARENT appreciation for Mao, Tse-Tung's diplomatic skill, but after a great deal of reflection since reading Dr Kissinger's book, I am thankful for the experience and knowledge imparted and my worldview has been appreciably augmented for the better as a result. The narrator was superb and the book was easy to follow. This is one I will re-read regularly because there is so much there to appreciate.

Not long ago, I read "On China" by Henry Kissinger. I was stunned. As an amateur student of Chinese history, and avid traveler, especially and frequently to Taiwan (and in a couple of weeks, to mainland China for an extended stay), Dr Kissinger's perspective and exposition on China's worldview were, well, simply stunning. So I immediately bought the new Niall Ferguson biography because: (1) I love Mr Ferguson's work having read and thoroughly enjoyed his work before, and (2) I was VERY intrigued, to say the least, about Dr Kissinger's worldview having seen it first hand in "On China." I was NOT disappointed. Mr Ferguson's writing style and scholarship were a perfect fit for Dr Kissinger's style and scholarship. This book is a real keeper - one I will re-read regularly to recalibrate my understanding of geopolitics. I cannot believe I did not discover Dr Kissinger's work before!! Beware, despite Mr Ferguson's clear prose, Dr Kissinger's work is not for those who don't take time to stop and ponder what they've read. But, for me, it has been worth every moment of reflection, and every revisit so far. Highly recommended. BTW: The narrator's performance was First Class. Clear; consistent; entertaining; and professional.

But for the author's preposterous political "conclusions" interposed from time to time throughout the book, the overall story was well written and fascinating. It was astonishing and laughable to hear the author torture his own expositions to fit his statist bias! Accordingly, prepare yourself to hear the author's ignorant conclusions drawn from thin air and posited in complete opposition to the facts you had just heard in the author's preceding narrative. Thankfully, his silly comments were only occasional -- although the anticipation of his next supercilious remark was distracting. Ignoring the author's compulsion to spin the story and to offer his topsy-turvy understanding of the "Left's" vs. "Right's" worldview (a sense of humor will help with that), the book was enjoyable to listen to. Just reverse most of the author's editorial opinions and you will be on the historically correct track to get on with the story!

I have read many books, and listened to many tapes and CDs on the subject of meditation. This book is a comprehensive treatment,it is informative and fascinating. Wilson's approach to guiding the listener into the practice of meditation is highly effective due to its, clarity, organization and presentation. The second part of the book is truly inspiring. This will be the last book, audio or otherwise, I will ever need on meditation. Paul Wilson has effectively communicated the concept of meditation and skillfully guided the listener to success in the process. I highly recommend this to anyone who has tried to learn to meditate on his or her own, but has been frustrated in the effort.
