Historia
An intense psychological thriller for fans of I Am Watching You, The Luckiest Girl Alive, and All the Missing Girls. Two missing girls. Thirteen years apart. Olivia Shaw has been missing since last Tuesday. She was last seen outside the entrance of her elementary school in Hunts Point wearing a white spring jacket, blue jeans, and pink boots. I force myself to look at the face in the photo, into her slightly smudged features, and I can't bring myself to move. Olivia Shaw could be my mirror image, rewound to 13 years ago.

No Big Twist, Not an exciting ending
Revisado: 11-11-17
The story is told in small tidbits of information, going between what is happening and what did happen. I kept waiting for one chapter that would tell me the story of "what happened" and I never got it. I think the author missed something big there--it could have created the much needed suspense in the story. As for what "is happening", there are many missed areas where the author apparently leaves it for the reader to fill in the blanks and I just got tired of doing that. I saw reviews that said there was a big twist at the end, so I stuck it out and finished the book but I wouldn't call it a twist. I'd call it almost predictable. There are only so many characters in the book so you can only have one or two people be the bad guy.
The narrator was fantastic.

Amazing First Read of this Author
Revisado: 09-01-17
Would you consider the audio edition of Stillhouse Lake to be better than the print version?
I had a hard time "bonding" with the narrator at first but soon came to realize that she was indeed reading the book in a voice type that I would believe Gwen would use.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Stillhouse Lake?
When I realized just who Gwen could trust and who she couldn't. First I was surprised then I became sympathetic for her and couldn't wait till she figured it out for herself.
What does Emily Sutton-Smith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She starts out narrating in a dry, monotone voice. I had difficulty with it and almost gave up on the book. I am glad I didn't because the voice of Gwen changes subtly thru the story and becomes exactly what it needs to be.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I read many true crime books and mystery books. I have NEVER stopped to think about how the spouse or loved one of a convicted murderer would feel; what their life would be like after the perpetrator is caught and convicted. It was a completely eye opening realization and it led to much thought and contemplation.
Any additional comments?
I had never read anything by this author and this book was on sale so I thought I'd give it a try. I was not disappointed! I was very excited to see there is a book 2 in the series coming in a few months.

Historia
Two thousand people go missing in Alaska every year. They vanish in the middle of mountain footraces, on fishing boats in the Bering Sea, on small planes in the Bush. Now a geologist known for going walkabout with his rock hammer has disappeared from the Suulutaq Mine in the Park. Was it deliberate? An accident? Foul play? Kate Shugak may be the only person who can find out. But for the fact that Kate, too, is among the missing....

Historia
Renée Ballard works the night shift in Hollywood, beginning many investigations but finishing none, as each morning she turns her cases over to day shift detectives. A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

the story was great, the characters appealing but the narrator read it like she was reading one sentence at a time instead of a story. if she reads any more in the series someday, I hope they work on her delivery.

not a great narrator
Revisado: 07-08-17
I can't decide if the book was boring or if it was just that the narrator made the book boring. She reads it very flat with little inflection. Hard to know when different characters were speaking.

Historia
Amos Decker witnesses a murder just outside FBI headquarters. A man shoots a woman execution style on a crowded sidewalk, then turns the gun on himself. Even with Decker's extraordinary powers of observation and deduction, the killing is baffling. Decker and his team can find absolutely no connection between the shooter - a family man with a successful consulting business - and his victim, a schoolteacher.

Disappointing addition to the Series
Revisado: 05-15-17
Would you recommend The Fix to your friends? Why or why not?
I would not recommend The Fix. I was enjoying the book until about 2/3 the way through and then it seemed to just run off the rails and go in a direction I found unbelievable and not entertaining at all.
Did Kyf Brewer and Orlagh Cassidy do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
Kyf Brewer 'may' be reading the book with a tone to indicate Decker's almost autistic interaction with those around him but it is very annoying and difficult to listen to. Some times I feel like he is almost yelling his part of the story; or exaggerating the tone he is trying to convey. Orlagh does a great job however.
Any additional comments?
I love the character of Amos Decker but this book was disappointing in so many ways. Kyf Brewer needs to read in a softer and less abrupt way, the story had way too many twists and turns--it lost me after about the 3rd one. I rarely want to quit reading a book once I start so I did complete this book but I did not enjoy it.

Historia
Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

This book sucked me in and I found myself wanting to live in the story. I hope this is the beginning of a new series of books. Also, Mr Quinto has a very easy to listen to voice for narration. I'd listen to any book he narrates.
