Historia
October 2023 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, a conflict that shaped the modern Middle East. The War was a trauma for Israel, a dangerous superpower showdown, and, following the oil embargo, a pivotal reordering of the global economic order. The Jewish State came shockingly close to defeat. After the war, Prime Minister Golda Meir resigned in disgrace, and a 9/11-style commission investigated the "debacle." But, argues Uri Kaufman, from the perspective of a half century, the War can be seen as a pivotal victory for Israel.

An extraordinary telling
Revisado: 09-20-24
Although I came to adulthood during the Yom Kippur War, I had no clue as to the details. This is an excellent telling of one of Israel’s greatest blunders and how they managed to snatch a victory out of near defeat.
It sheds light on the capabilities of Israeli defenses and should serve as a cautionary tale to those who want to engage in hostilities.

I had no idea!
Revisado: 08-04-24
I found this book to be very inspiring. My perception of Wilson was uninformed, this detailed documentation of his life changed my mind. He certainly had his weaknesses, but the character of his life and the outpouring of support by the country at large is strong evidence that he was one of our greatest presidents.

Historia
Few figures in American politics have seen more and said less than Mitt Romney. An outspoken dissident in Donald Trump’s GOP, he has made headlines in recent years for standing alone against the forces he believes are poisoning the party he once led. Romney was the first senator in history to vote to remove from office a president of his own party. When that president’s supporters went on to storm the US Capitol, Romney delivered a thundering speech from the Senate floor accusing his fellow Republicans of stoking insurrection.

Mitt Romney has my vote!
Revisado: 06-15-24
McKay Coppins portrayal is excellent, With unfettered access to very personal correspondence and journals, and independent research, one gets a remarkable insight into the heart and mind of Mitt Romney… and I really like what I learned.
I no longer view Romney as a flip flopping political hack, but as a flawed, yet principled human being who loves his family and country and possesses the clearest view of our current political environment.
He would have been an outstanding president!

When Michael Lewis first met him, Sam Bankman-Fried was the world’s youngest billionaire and crypto’s Gatsby. CEOs, celebrities, and leaders of small countries all vied for his time and cash after he catapulted, practically overnight, onto the Forbes billionaire list. Who was this rumpled guy in cargo shorts and limp white socks, whose eyes twitched across Zoom meetings as he played video games on the side?

A very insightful story which goes well beyond the main stream narrative. Incredibly interesting and generous to every character. The portrayal of complex systems in very understandable language makes it both fascinating and thought provoking. Michael Lewis hits another home run!

Brought me to tears.
Revisado: 05-04-23
God bless you for your courage and determination to bring this horrible plague to light. I grew up in a home where my parents provided foster care for some of these abused children. I now understand better why they had such behavioral issues.
While not the fault of any religious tradition, it certainly can be hard to discover in some.

December 1944: Deep in the Ardennes forest, a platoon of 18 men under the command of 20-year-old lieutenant Lyle Bouck huddle in their foxholes. Under attack and vastly outnumbered, they repulse three German assaults in a fierce day-long battle, killing more than 500 Germans. Only when Bouck's men run out of ammunition do they surrender. As POWs, Bouck's platoon experience an ordeal far worse than combat: trigger-happy German guards, Allied bombing raids, and a daily ration of thin soup. Somehow, the men of Bouck's platoon all miraculously survive.

In the first and most reliable biography of Daniel Boone in more than 50 years, award-winning historian Faragher brilliantly portrays America's famous frontier hero while illuminating the American hero-making process itself. Drawing from popular narrative, the public record, scraps of documentation from Boone's own hand, and a treasure trove of reminiscences gathered by nineteenth-century antiquarians, Faragher uses the methods of new social history to create a portrait of the man and the times he helped shape.

Great insight into the Tiananmen Square tragedy
Revisado: 09-23-21
An insightful and intimate story of one woman’s heroic effort to make things better in China and the brutal crackdown by the Communist regime of the student protests at Tiananmen Square.
The authors personal journey to Christianity is a little less interesting, but touching, especially the statistics and perspectives about the Chinese abortion machine.
The style of writing is a bit less sophisticated than I would have expected from the academic background of the author.
Overall a good book, well worth the time spent listening.
