Historia
"My name is Tucker Max, and I am an asshole. I get excessively drunk at inappropriate times, disregard social norms, indulge every whim, ignore the consequences of my actions, mock idiots and posers, sleep with more women than is safe or reasonable, and just generally act like a raging dickhead. But, I do contribute to humanity in one very important way: I share my adventures with the world."

Thought it was satire. But it seems to be junk
Revisado: 12-22-23
At first I thought the book started with an initial shock story chapter with the ”I” in the story this misogynic degrading pennalist as the main character. But it seemed to be without irony as the story just continued with abhorrent behaviour described as fun and exciting. And then it falls completely flat. So it’s junk. I would not recommend this to anyone. I am very surprised that anything like this is published. Or I just didn’t get it at all. Which may well be the case of course.
The narrator is very into it and does a good job though. But the content is trash.

Historia
Once, we humans could only observe evolution. Suddenly, we had conquered it. And yet, in Life as We Made It, evolutionary biologist Beth Shapiro argues that - despite how amazing our new technologies are - our ability to alter the course of evolution isn’t new. What is new is that where once we shaped evolution through brute force, we can now do it as artisans. That power comes not a moment too soon. If we are going to survive in the next few centuries, we must revise the book of life.

A biotech optimistic view of the world
Revisado: 01-04-22
I believe technology is and will be the solution to the problems we humans have, some crwated by ourselves and others not. And one of the most powerful technologies of today and the future is in the field of biotech and genomics. Beth Shapiro seems to be a likeminded scientist in this field.
The book is also fun and easy to listen to and I like that the author is the voice to her own book.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - why the world's population is increasing; how many young women go to school; how many of us live in poverty - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.

Very important for a fact based world view
Revisado: 08-04-18
Hans Rosling was a possibilist, not a pessimist or optimist. And he is arguing the slow moving process of improving human life world wide. Read this. It is very good.

Historia
In The Science of Likability, you'll get all that and more. I've taken 27 seminal scientific and psychological studies and broken them down, so you can use their findings to your advantage. Every piece of advice in this book to increase your social standing and likability factor is 100% backed by in-depth, peer-reviewed research. You can get a new haircut and wardrobe, and you even learn funny jokes. But likability is something more. It's subconscious, and it's the small signs that signal our brains to let their guards down and embrace others.

Generalizing and shallow. Cheap and easy interpretation.
Revisado: 03-16-18
These studies referenced are probably seriously made, but this book makes a mockery of it all. It is shallow and judgemental and generalizing in a pretty bad way. I hope no one actually tries to follow these crude guidelines as if they were true and working. Stay away.

Historia
In this Hugo-nominated novel, an alien walks into a museum and asks if he can see a paleontologist. But the arachnid ET hasn't come aboard a rowboat with the Pope and Stephen Hawking (although His Holiness does request an audience later). Landing at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, the spacefarer, Hollus, asks to compare notes on mass extinctions with resident dino-scientist Thomas Jericho.

Sci-fi about The question of Gods existance
Revisado: 10-28-15
Good book for a science nerd like myself. I enjoyed the story, aliens arrive in Canada to study earth evolution. I recommend to atheists, believers of any faith (and interested in science) and agnostics. Also of course because it's a good and unusual sci-fi book.

Musk, prodigy gone genious
Revisado: 10-28-15
I like this book. It portrays Elon Musk as the tech wizard and leader but also the sometimes empathy and social skills lacking person. A sociopath?
The end befits the means and the goal is worth trampling over the people that can't handle it or are unlucky to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But also, the world improver, the engineering for the better of all that attracts the geniouses of the tech world to create something to change markets and the paradigm of automotive manufacturing, space flight and energy production.
How did this come about? The South African youth, emigration to North America, becoming a young IT-millionaire and the sometimes hard knocks that life and circumstances hit him with. I am an engineer and tech nerd and liked the book. My wife, a non-techie, arts and design professional also really liked this book. Probably for different reasons.

Historia
Book store nation, in the history of mankind there has never been a greater country than America. You could say we're the number one nation at being the best at greatness. But as perfect as America is in every single way, America is broken! And we can't exchange it because we're 236 years past the 30-day return window. Look around - we don't make anything anymore, we've mortgaged our future to China, and the Apologist-in-Chief goes on world tours just to bow before foreign leaders.

I expected the exuberant witty Stephen Colbert from the Colbert Report. But this must have been all material that didn't make the cut. Uninspired and long betweens kernels of wit. I will not be able to finish this - and that is unusual.

Historia
For fans of Tina Fey and David Sedaris - Internet star Jenny Lawson, aka The Bloggess, makes her literary debut. Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives - the ones we'd like to pretend never happened - are in fact the ones that define us. In Let's Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes readers on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor.

Historia
Golden Globe-winning actor Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) performs Truman Capote's masterstroke about a young writer's charmed fascination with his unorthodox neighbor, the "American geisha" Holly Golightly. Holly - a World War II-era society girl in her late teens - survives via socialization, attending parties and restaurants with men from the wealthy upper class who also provide her with money and expensive gifts. Over the course of the novella, the seemingly shallow Holly slowly opens up to the curious protagonist.

Michael C Hall - extraordinary voice
Revisado: 06-02-15
Very good rendering of this classic. Michael C Halls reasily revognisable voice increased the experience for me. I will now specifically try to find other books narrated by Michael.
