Annoying
Revisado: 04-10-25
It was the most annoying book ever. The ice, ice, ice repetition was enough to annoy me. It was unneeded, I understood he was autistic but his ice business was too much. A silly way to build the suspense. Her personality was dislikable.

When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Dissapointed
Revisado: 04-06-25
The story’ pacing was too slow at the start, and I'm not quite sure about that first part; it felt unnecessary. It could have easily been condensed to about 30 minutes max. I'm puzzled by the numerous details included—perhaps Mr. King was reminiscing about a previous hospital stay. Once it picked up, the story was engaging, but the ending ultimately fell flat; it missed the chance to make the whole experience worthwhile. It was not a happy ending; though it is possible Mr. King does not like romance, too bad.

Any woman caught in his presence was immediately ruined. Yet Beth found herself inexorably drawn to the Scottish lord whose hint of a brogue wrapped around her like silk and whose touch could draw her into a world of ecstasy.

An unexpected find
Revisado: 05-25-16
What made the experience of listening to The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie the most enjoyable?
The cover made me hesitate, but the story captivated me. Not sure why, but the Ian is one the most lovable characters I have found. His desire to feel is endearing, and he is just so lovable, not an ounce of badness even after a tortured childhood. The overall story flowed well and the narrator was great for this genre.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Ian
What about Angela Dawe’s performance did you like?
She reads with emotion, not in a montone, makes the listening experience a pleasure.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It is very emotional, yup, easy to cry, a harrowing experience because the cruelty he experienced at the primitive and inhumane psychiatric facility as a child; clode to the reality of mental health institutions at the time
Any additional comments?
Ian is one of those characters that could have a sequel. Beth is okay, but he is the star in this novel. Although sequels are not my cup of tea, I would make an exception in this case. I think this is one of those books that will be/are one of the favorites of many readers of the genre.

Historia
New York Times and USA Today best-selling author G.A. Aiken is widely celebrated for her compelling Dragon Kin series. In The Dragon Who Loved Me, Rhona the Fearless, first daughter of a proud warrior family, resents that she’s not respected for her battle prowess by the male Northland dragons. But when one barbarian dragon becomes enamored with her, she begins to relish her influence over him.

Something missing
Revisado: 02-12-16
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator's diction was clear but emotionless which made the love scenes as romantic as eating in a fast food restaurant. And I didn't particullary like the diminished romantic tone from the first dragon books, which set Aiken as a lone star in the fantasy arena, whereas the first books had a balanced dose of fantasy, romance, mayhem, violence and humor, the tone has changed, romance has taken a nearly non existent role. Since Éibhear and Lizzie's story the romance portion has gone up in dragon smoke, and the stories have become more into the oncoming-ongoing war. I think this trend might have won Aiken more less romance inclined readers, but I no longer run to read the preorder books.
What did you like best about this story?
The humor and the dragon princes overall insensitive and selfishness, it is just hilarious, as well as their savagery. The continuity of their presence makes the reading experience worth while as well as the overall great imagination and originality expressed in Aiken's writing
How could the performance have been better?
More emotion and warmth, the narrator's read romance scenes the same way than violent or funny ones. Just like reading the ingredients for maccaroni and cheese. The love scenes with caution and almost rushed as if they needed to be skipped, and you could hear the discomfort in the reader's voice.
Do you think The Dragon Who Loved Me needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
The series needs to continue as simple as that, but expect to run on empty in the romance department, which is now an incidental, alas.
Any additional comments?
I wish for the old Aiken to return, but the new one is still okay even if the writing's uniqueness is quickly evaporating to please a wider audience. Too bad

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I listened to the end, a total waste of time. Maybe is just me but the entire story could have been 10 pages long. The almost, almost got old in no time. It was neither a live story, neither a dog story, what was not sure? Clean it was to the point there was not even a hug, so if you want to fill the space with zero angst, cutsiness, and a litlle bit of this, a little bit of that, this is for you.
Would you ever listen to anything by Karen McQuestion again?
Never
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
He did the best with the material given.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Hello Love?
Too much to write here, too much straw to gather in a meaningful fashion.

Too many: yes, no, maybe, almost...which made it predictable and tiresome. It made the plot contrived, and it was a shame because it had the possibilities for a superb farce.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I have nothing against people who read or write inspirational fiction, but it is neither a genre that I would buy voluntarily nor read, thus I am bothered that I am stuck with a book that I bought totally unware of its contents. It is not the first time this happens when Audible sells inspirational books masked as other.

Yes, an alter Koontz might be enjoyable.
Revisado: 10-18-14
Where does Innocence rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
While I had guessed much of the final outcome, and this story falls within the mystic realms where Koontz often dwells, it is a good tale, nevertheless; it is fodder for your inner —light—theologian. A doomsday story in the same vein of one of his older stories where innocence is the only way to earth's survival while eliminating all that ails our damaged world. A story about the eternal clash of evil vs good, where faulty humanity's original sin can only be expunged by total annihilation, thus granting hope for this earth. Albeit this fiction is not your regular terror fiction, it is an enjoyable read, just a different take.
If you could rename Innocence, what would you call it?
The tittle fits rather well.
Any additional comments?
Maybe start an alternate classification of some of Koontz works, his work can really be divided in at least one more genre. This cannot be classified as a horror book because it could raise unreal expectations while detracting lectors interested in this alternative genre from finding this good read.

In Dark Lycan, Christine Feehan journeyed into the heart of the Carpathians, and into the souls of two lifemates stirred by the flush of passion and the threat of annihilation. In Dark Wolf, the breathtaking story continues as the bonds of family are imperiled, and the fate of two lovers lies hidden in the seductive shadows between life and death.

Booooring
Revisado: 09-10-14
What would have made Dark Wolf better?
An infusion of originality, less of the "Annoyingly clever," Carpathian, it is the same old, filling the blanks, more of a new plot, more of a new fresh approach.
Would you ever listen to anything by Christine Feehan again?
Maybe, her panthers are still readable, except for the geographical booboos.
How could the performance have been better?
Their imitation voices make my heart cringe and love scenes were, well, embarrasing.
Any additional comments?
Give up the Carpathians, or have an appendix with the background.

Historia
Northern Ireland, spring 1981. Hunger strikes, riots, power cuts, a homophobic serial killer with a penchant for opera, and a young woman’s suicide that may yet turn out to be murder: on the surface, the events are unconnected, but then things—and people—aren’t always what they seem. Detective Sergeant Duffy is the man tasked with trying to get to the bottom of it all. It’s no easy job—especially when it turns out that one of the victims was involved in the IRA but was last seen discussing business with someone from the loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force.

A lazy stream growing into a powerful river
Revisado: 05-17-13
Any additional comments?
It took me several tries to get into the story, but as a stream grows fed by tributaries into a powerful force of nature, so did this narration.
The narrator's lilt and cadence and native accent, further contributed to the natural flow and intensity of the story's events. The combination of a good tale and a well matched narrator, impacted on how the pieces fell into a perfectly mixed flow; on how all the feeding streams converged to make the interest grow; and on how the roar of the tale was able to drown all other interests, to successfully catch the reader's full attention in its eddies of intrigue and secrets.
This is a story of a conflicted catholic Irish detective working with protestants in the midst of the hunger strikes, the political maneuvers, the prejudices and hatred of religion, and the conflicted sexuality of the players, where many factors of the troubled Irish history are mixed with perfectly fluid precision, which result in a natural and moving experience, dragging you in as a nature's force.
A tale of a series of hate crimes cleverly using and exploiting the circumstances of all those involved, and a smart detective determined to find the connection between the murders of men who were reputed to be gay, the disappearance of a young woman, the Protestant-Catholic conflict, the dangers of Belfast during the era, and the politicos biding for power, and the main character's identity crisis; they all make for a powerful story only made better by the author's flawless performance and his wonderfully tinged with emotions voice.
What was better the story or the narrator? What shall I say, Doyle made the experience more intense; or was it McKinty who provided the perfect tale only to be enhanced by Doyle? Or do they flow together in a stream of great story telling, pulling us in until the end of the book and leaving us, the readers, hungering for more?
As far as the mystery went, it managed to stomp me, even if I had guessed much, and that is a feat, trust me, I am who guesses a who-done-it very early on. This is one book I would recommend without hesitation.
