Ideology
Revisado: 02-03-24
Such a narrow spectrum. Where is Coolidge? Brian? Tim Houston? Eisenhower? Even Huey long ?
The collection is driven by some ideology with a little bit of window dressing in the form of Moses Pele. Thanks for the Patrick Henry, so Joyner, truth, Booker T. Washington and Frederick Douglass.. How come only the men have a gavel sounding?

Historia
Grover Cleveland’s political career—a dizzying journey that saw him rise from obscure lawyer to president of the United States in just three years—was marked by contradictions. A politician of uncharacteristic honesty and principle, he was nevertheless dogged by secrets from his personal life. A believer in limited government, he pushed presidential power to its limits to combat a crippling depression, suppress labor unrest, and resist the forces of American imperialism.

Politics 2020 always distorting analysis. Chummy lingo like the 6 o’clock news. Like the Whittier poem - missed the whole theme of gods grace

I did not know
Revisado: 03-27-20
Why are these heroes hidden from us?
Why are they not discussed in medical school?
My other faults not recognized and considered? Instead they are buried, forgotten, ignored.
We concentrate instead on why there are not more female staff cardiologists (see March 2020, American journal of medicine, editorial by Alpert). I’m no genius, but I think we’ve lost something.
Books like this reminds us of what we have lost. Certainly they remind us of our flaws, of toxic ego, how appetites can ruin the best person. This book reminds me that inside an average student, predicted to fail by teachers (sic), in such a regular American there can be greatness and genius.

Historia
Foreign Enemies and Traitors is set in the near future in an America that is creeping steadily toward socialist tyranny, in the midst of the second Great Depression. A year after earthquakes have devastated the Tennessee Valley, survivors are resisting demands by the federal government to relocate to FEMA refugee centers. United States National Guard units have proven ineffective at forcing these survivors out of the earthquake-damaged regions, due to their reluctance to employ deadly force against fellow Americans.

Historia
Few moments in history are as stirring as the Allied liberation of Paris. Yet few people are aware of how narrowly, and how miraculously, the city escaped Hitler's secret plan to reduce it to ashes. Is Paris Burning? reconstructs, in meticulous and riveting detail, the network of fateful events, day by day, moment by moment, that saved the City of Light.

Silly restriction on sharing short passages
Revisado: 04-09-18
There some wonderful passages here.
About freedom, paradoxically.
But they are usually last longer than 30 seconds.
They would be great to share, and when I do others often say they will buy the book. But the 30 sec rule is silly. Keep your 4-5minute limit if you must, but let us poor mice out of your 30second maze. Let meaningful word of mouth advertisement begin.

Historia
Migration, terrorism, the tensions between global capitalism and nationalism, and a communications revolution: These forces shaped Joseph Conrad's destiny at the dawn of the 20th century. In this brilliant new interpretation of one of the great voices in modern literature, Maya Jasanoff reveals Conrad as a prophet of globalization. As an immigrant from Poland to England, and in travels from Malaya to Congo to the Caribbean, Conrad navigated an interconnected world and captured it in a literary oeuvre of extraordinary depth.

Mixup
Revisado: 12-08-17
Is this a retrospective political criticism of “capitalism” (which apparently refers to all dishonesty and theft, by any and all) or a literary study of JC? All this Panama Canal expose. I suspect a lot of wishful thinking in the phrase “Conrad thought.”
