Historia
Australian voice-over artist Lofty Fulton knows what it's like to have the odds stacked against him: Born with achondroplasia, which is a form of dwarfism, his grandmother thought he should be locked away from the world. At school, he suffered years of relentless bullying, believing the lie he would never be loved or good enough. At 15, Lofty's voice broke, giving him a unique gift that paved the way for his future. Lofty: My Life in Short is a deeply personal memoir.

Voice and story for the ages
Revisado: 07-15-23
First came to know of Ian Fulton through the Canine Paradigm podcast. He has a voice that defies description but I’ll try: melodic, hypnotic, powerful, very powerful, other-worldly, extraordinary and more. His narration of his memoir as a person with a type of dwarfism speaks to, heals, and challenges all of us. I cried, I cheered, I laughed, and was deeply moved.

When sporting events were put on hold in March 2020, commentator Andrew Cotter shifted to working from home. The one-on-one competitors? His two Labrador retrievers, Olive and Mabel. In the hilarious videos that ensued, the dogs engage in various contests, from bone-snatching and breakfast-eating to crushing it on the dog walk, while Cotter narrates to hilarious effect.

Intelligent and entertaining
Revisado: 08-14-22
Thoroughly enjoyable to listen to Andrew Cotter narrate the story of the dogs he loves and respects. He addresses common misconceptions about dogs and gently offers alternatives, all interlaced with the story of his life and exquisitely memorable experiences with his dogs. Oh and lots of self-effacing humor!

Disappointing
Revisado: 09-10-21
I had thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommended Atticus Lush’s previous book, “Preparation for the Next Life” powerfully written with distinct and memorable characters. I’m 5 hours into this one and am bagging it, too boring, lack of plot, etc., and find myself thinking, “please make it end because the contrast between this and his other is painful.”

Roland Merullo's playful, eloquent, and life-affirming novel finds the Pope and the Dalai Lama teaming up for an unsanctioned road trip through the Italian countryside to rediscover the everyday joys of life that can seem, even for the two holiest men in the world, unattainable.

Could not get past narrator
Revisado: 05-18-19
The story was passable: good concept, but painfully predictable. The narrator’s sing-song tonality and poor imitation- no, awful!!! - portrayal of the Dalai Lama seemed disrespectful at best. Listened for 4 hours and hated it!

Historia
Mr. Bones, the canine hero of this astonishing book, is the sidekick and confidant of Willy G. Christmas, a brilliant and troubled homeless man from Brooklyn. As Willy's body slowly expires, he sets off with Mr. Bones for Baltimore in search of his high-school English teacher and a new home for his companion. Mr. Bones is our witness during their journey, and out of his thoughts, Paul Auster has spun one of the richest, most compelling tales in American fiction.

Dismal and depressing
Revisado: 12-18-14
What could Paul Auster have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The character of the dog lacked authenticity. It would have been better had the author not imposed so many human attributes onto Mr Bones, e.g., dream content, conversations, capacity to predict outcomes of human relationships.
What about Joe Barrett’s performance did you like?
His narration was the only reason I gave the book three stars as he was believable, varied his pace appropriately, and matched the characters.

Historia
Kenneth Branagh stars in BBC Radio 4's ambitious eight-hour dramatisation of Life and Fate, Vasily Grossman's epic masterpiece set during the Battle of Stalingrad. This powerful work, completed in 1960, charts the fate of both a nation and a family in the turmoil of war. Its comparison of Stalinism with Nazism was considered by Soviet authorities to be so dangerous that the KGB placed the manuscript under arrest and Grossman was informed his book would not be published for at least 200 years.

Painfully well done
Revisado: 08-27-13
I had a bit of a struggle following the thread of the story between the characters, however the narration skills of these amazing actors overcame this difficulty for the most part. As indicated in other reviews, the story is unrelentingly grim, realistic, and painful to listen to because of its adherence to accurate portrayal of individual experiences in World War II.

Historia
Against the larger-than-life backdrop of England's conflict with Napoleon, young Anne Garland is courted by three suitors: the trumpet-major John Loveday, his sailor-brother Bob, and Festus Derriman of the yeomanry cavalry. For Hardy, the loves and sorrows of ordinary characters are as much the material of history as any record of emperors and generals.

Far Below Both Author's and Narrator's Quality
Revisado: 08-12-13
I have been quite taken by the Hardy oeuvre: have both read and listened to more than ten books; have swooned over nearly all; but this one is by far the worst. I tried to get past Mr. Vance's sing-song and condescending narration but couldn't because there was not enough character draw to keep me engaged in this story. After 90 minutes, decided I'd given this enough time and deleted it from my phone..

Saved by the amazing Juliet Stevensen
Revisado: 02-11-13
I've listened to several other Rose Tremain novels and this one left the most to be desired. I couldn't get attached to any of the main characters as their flaws, especially their extreme lack of empathy for others, far outweighed any evident positive attribute. However, I listened to the entire book because Ms. Stevensen's gift of narration and acting is a treat to hear regardless of the quality of the content.

Inspiring and Thoughtful Content
Revisado: 12-05-11
This book provides an unapologetic, refreshing, biblical-based perspective on the responsibilities of Christians. The only disappointment was that when the book quoted scripture, the narrator assumed an almost-Ossie Davis tone which detracted from the content because it wasn't genuine.

Historia
A terrifying ghost is haunting the ancient mansion of Canterville Chase, complete with creaking floorboards, clanking chains and gruesome disguises - but the new occupants seem strangely undisturbed by his presence. Deftly contrasting the conventional gothic ghost story with the pragmatism of the modern world, Wilde creates a gently comic fable of the conflict between old and new. Rupert Degas's hilarious reading brings the absurdity and theatricality of the story to life.

Not of Wilde's usual caliber
Revisado: 10-05-11
This period piece by Wilde was not as enjoyable to listen to as were "The Importance of Being Earnest" or "An Ideal Husband" both of which were literary treats. This play merely seems to dramatize Americans' lack of appreciation for all that is British without being either funny or enlightening. I'm not partial to the favorable portraiture of Americans but the characters in this play were one-dimensional and not engaging, and I couldn't suspend disbelief in the premise of the story. I tried, but I couldn't listen to more than 30 minutes. Instead, I'd highly recommend the two plays previously mentioned.
