why even try surviving?

The main character, "he would fiercely protect his family", yet they give up at the slightest hint of resistance. Then proceeds to sit and stew in his own anger at not doing anything all the while complaining internally about not murdering anyone in "cold blood". The only people they even remotely stood up to were they cops. They have a whole container of guns to shoot back at people but never use them. Oh yea and they have a machine gun they magically forget about! I've never rooted for the main group of characters to be killed off until this book. They are the dumbest yet.

Not bad but.....

The characters turned from being scared of the police to murderous sociopaths in mere seconds. Second how much supplies can one person possibly accumulate and haul with one truck? 5 tons of ammo, 600+guns(just from the store he worked at, not counting already at home) 2-3 utv/atvs plus food, half a million dollars in night vision and thermal optics and others stuff etc,etc. Does this truck have a 1000hp engine. Decent story but I hate when they make it so easy and stumble across the score of a lifetime. Lastly ALL the needless idiotic banter back and forth.....ugghh. I just murder a state trooper but damn honey you look good in those nvgs, let's sneak off and do it in the woods...

These have to be the stupidest set of people in any book ive listened to. Every decision they make is asinine and the only reason they are alive still is that the enemies they face are even dumber. That being said how do you take over an entire state like Texas with shotguns and six shooters? I tried finishing the 3 book box set but after they "escaped" the cartel at the end of book two. I was done. Also what is an ak15?

To me it seemed like there were big gaps in the storyline. Like the characters were in the middle of something and then that story angle was over and they had moved on. For instance the prison warden was thinking over his options one second and then the gang leader is out and at home with an army already assembled and waiting, with no in between. Gaps in the battle and then it over. Maybe my Audible download had some glitches and missing parts. Also it seems like the chapters were recorded differently(I know he didn't read the book straight through) and at different places or recording studio. What I mean is that the pitch and sound was off from time to time like it was patched together rather than just read all the way through.

The story overall was pretty good but the narrator was sub par. He did well when it was his own voice but when he tried to switch voices it was the pits.... hence the 3 stars.

this book was hot garbage. it felt like someone was reading a transcript of a teenage lover quarrel from Facebook. "I know we are in the apocalypse but I'm going to lead this boy on so he will help me, wait I don't really like him at all but I'm jealous if anyone looks at him". " I wish this girl would stop messing with me". Hug me, don't touch me, hug me, get away from me. mix in a few bitchy letters from an old lady and this is the book. Also I really hate when authors make something a book one when really it's a book two or three.

oh what could have been

Good Lord the dragging on and on and on of inner thought and some weird hang up on women in the navy. I never expected it to be like the show but this was nothing like it at all. it was endless inner thoughts and mundane everyday goings on. I couldn't even finish it. it was like listening to someone read a dictionary.
