Historia
An orphan’s life is harsh - and often short - in the mysterious island city of Camorr. But young Locke Lamora dodges death and slavery, becoming a thief under the tutelage of a gifted con artist. As leader of the band of light-fingered brothers known as the Gentleman Bastards, Locke is soon infamous, fooling even the underworld’s most feared ruler. But in the shadows lurks someone still more ambitious and deadly. Faced with a bloody coup that threatens to destroy everyone and everything that holds meaning in his mercenary life, Locke vows to beat the enemy at his own brutal game.

Wasn’t for me.
Revisado: 04-21-25
I wanted to like this but just didn’t. I couldn’t tell if it was supposed to be a YA novel. The story was just so thin.

Just not as good
Revisado: 07-20-19
I love Mr Stephenson’s work. He’s been one of my favorite authors for years.
This book just seemed to fall short of his previous works. It was a slower pace. The characters were hard to invest in because they kept changing forms.
The conflict and resolution also just didn’t engage me.
I will remain a fan always. And this is a neat sequel to a previous work.

Historia
The title of Ravenmaster is a serious title indeed, and after decades of serving the Queen, Yeoman Warder Christopher Skaife took on the added responsibility of caring for the infamous ravens. In The Ravenmaster, he lets listeners in on his life as he feeds his birds raw meat and biscuits soaked in blood, buys their food at Smithfield Market, and ensures that these unusual, misunderstood, and utterly brilliant corvids are healthy, happy, and ready to captivate the four million tourists who flock to the Tower every year.

And the ravens. I want to meet them all as soon as I can.
I will remain a respectful member of the public but would be so grateful to shake this man’s hand.

Historia
Terry Pratchett has earned a place in the hearts of listeners the world over with his best-selling Discworld series - but in recent years he has become equally well-known and respected as an outspoken campaigner for causes including Alzheimer's research and animal rights. A Slip of the Keyboard brings together for the first time the finest examples of Pratchett's nonfiction writing, both serious and surreal: from musings on mushrooms to what it means to be a writer (and why banana daiquiris are so important).

Historia
The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Not as good as it was hyped. Not "The Help"
Revisado: 10-31-12
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
This is a love story. And a movie story. I think generally a female audience might appreciate this book.
What could Jess Walter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I applaud Jess Walter, she is a fine author. For me the story was rather bleak.
What aspect of Edoardo Ballerini’s performance would you have changed?
I kept thinking that he sounded a lot like Scott Brick. He did a fine job of distinguishing characters.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I enjoyed hearing about the Cinque Terra and about some of the actual historical actors in the story.
Any additional comments?
The editors on Audible raved about this book and made it sound amazing. The story was only ok. I feel like it was a bait and switch. The hype made it a disappointment.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

No good.
Revisado: 11-30-05
I was expecting a story something along the lines of an Oz fairy tale. Instead, this book was long, boring and just seemed to wander around without a point. It is an adult story, not for the kids. Really heavy handed with half-formed philisophical babble that didn't seem to have much to do with the story. Some of the characters seemed to have a reason to be in the book, but many of them were shallow and didn't have much to do with the plot. I kept waiting for something to happen, trying to figure out when things were going to pick up, but they never did. I can't believe this book was so popular.
