Historia
Harry is back, assigned to the LAPD's Open-Unsolved Unit with his former cop ally and partner, Kizmin Rider. These detectives are the Closers. They are thrown into a politically sensitive and dangerous case when a white supremacist is connected to the 1988 murder of a mixed-race girl. The police department has changed, but one thing hasn't--Harry's nemesis, Irving. The former deputy chief has been pushed from power and given a virtually meaningless new role. Full of vengeance, Irving calls Harry a "retread".

Johannes Brahms was a man of contrasts. His serious Teutonic music was balanced by joyful dance music. His kindness to working people with a biting, malicious wit reserved for those he encountered in artistic and aristocratic circles. Yet you can know this enigmatic genius though this 8-lecture series, which uses biographical information and musical commentary to link the complexities of Brahms the man with the electrifying music of Brahms the composer.

Special Victims Unit beware
Revisado: 04-09-24
Riveting writing, typically enthralling plot, but borderline transition from “criminal intent” policing and crime solving to special victims unit (SVU) niveau that caters to perversity. Agatha Christie, as a famed mystery writer, managed to leave out the utter baseness and remain intriguing and socially critical. Still can’t get enough of Michael Connelly though…

Riveting roller coaster ride in a Lincoln
Revisado: 03-29-24
Of all the Michael Connelly crime novels I have read, this was the hardest to put down. Intricate well-constructed plot, great characterization, Developing the characters Bosch and Haller in later life. Connolly provides a credible balance between defense and prosecution, as ever with his riveting portrayal of law and order in Los Angeles. The twists and turns drive the narrative in his typical style.

While dumbing down with violent metaphors, the author does convey a lot of interesting facts and gives a simple overview of a very complicated immune system. I’m still left struggling with the wiener in the bun.
Definitely helps towards an understanding of our amazing body and certainly a timely piece.

One would think it be a daunting task to listen to Kant in German, But I wanted to take on the task after reading Sir Roger Scruton’s books. Some of the content that would trigger any feminist is quite amusing when put into historical perspective. His observations are obviously highly apt and still relevant today. Or, I asked myself, do we think that way now because of what he wrote back then?

One of the best episodes!
Revisado: 12-18-21
This episode was insightful, interesting lighthearted and very entertaining but also gave a very good overview of the history of the 18th century fashion. Especially the parts about going to the bathroom were important and something that “one” doesn’t always consider and are maybe not something that one wants to talk about but it was addressed here. These gals are good and fun!

The story of humanity is the story of textiles - as old as civilization itself. Since the first thread was spun, the need for textiles has driven technology, business, politics, and culture. In The Fabric of Civilization, Virginia Postrel synthesizes groundbreaking research from archaeology, economics, and science to reveal a surprising history. From Minoans exporting wool colored with precious purple dye to Egypt, to Romans arrayed in costly Chinese silk, the cloth trade paved the crossroads of the ancient world.
