FBI Agent Pendergast has taken Constance on a whirlwind Grand Tour. They head to Tibet, where Pendergast intensively trained in martial arts and spiritual studies. At a remote monastery, they learn that a rare and dangerous artifact the monks have been guarding for generations has been stolen. Pendergast agrees to take up the search. On the list but far down
Revisado: 07-10-12
The book wasn't bad and it was entertaining yet it wasn't great. It was the first book I read in the Pendergast series and that could explain why. Yet I have to admit the other books from this series are on my wish list but far behind so many others. I'm also not really in to mysteries so this could also explain why I didn't love this book.

Historia

Needing to pay elder care for his mother, Victor has devised an ingenious scam: He pretends to choke on pieces of food while dining in upscale restaurants. He then allows himself to be “saved” by fellow patrons who, feeling responsible for Victor’s life, go on to send checks to support him.

Dark comidy at it's best
Revisado: 02-26-12
What did you love best about Choke?
I loved how dark and depraved it was. This is a dark comedy and don't expect light and fluffy.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Choke?
When Victor Mancini was having sex with a fellow sex addict who he is sponsoring and loses a sex toy inside himself.
Have you listened to any of Chuck Palahniuk???s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've never listened to other Chuck Palahniuk work before. Yet I loved this was the authors narration. He has the voice that really fits Victor Mancini.
Who was the most memorable character of Choke and why?
Victor Mancini, he is the main character and there for you spend all your time because it's told from his point of view.
Any additional comments?
This is much better then the movie 2008 movie starring Sam Rockwell, Anjelica Huston, Kelly Macdonald, et al. Directed and written (screenplay) by Clark Gregg. Yet once you read or listen to this book I would recommend checking out this independent film.
Sadly Audible doesn't have the Unabridged version. Amazon does have a Unabridged DC for sale. Yet the only abridged version they have for sale is from Audible.

Narration better then the story
Revisado: 02-26-12
What did you love best about Boneshaker?
I also loved the Narration of the book.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved the mix of Steampunk & Zombies.
What does Wil Wheaton and Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
I've never read the printed book, but I find many of the modern Audio books better then the printed book. Older audio books were dry reads but today we have more voice acting done. They are almost to the quality of a radio drama. I wouldn't say this one goes that far but the narrator does well with the accents and subtle voice changes for different characters. Wil Wheaton and Kate Reading brings the characters to life. If you don't have a mind that will give them 3D from reading a audiobook may and in this case Wil Wheaton and Kate Reading did just that.
Any additional comments?
I think this book was very good for the first in a series. I can't wait to get to the second book. I've always found the weakest book in a series is the first book. From the fact the writer becomes better at writing to the fact that we already know much of the back ground story. Sadly this isn't true of Movies.

Better then True blood
Revisado: 02-26-12
What made the experience of listening to Club Dead the most enjoyable?
I like urban fantasy and this fit the bill for me. The one thing I find said is the fact Sookie Stackhouse has to wrestle with who to pick. I don't see why she can't pick more then one to be in love with.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Alcide Herveaux, it was good to see a werewolf in the series. I think he is a stronger then the two vampires. Bill Compton always felt like a whining baby to me. Eric Northman on the other hand is not as whining but he has a much darker side, less ethically strong.
Which scene was your favorite?
The erotic scene between Eric Northman and Sookie Stackhouse.
Any additional comments?
I didn't get in to this series till True Blood had come out. I like both the TV show and the books allot. I feel that after the first TV series the two have gone there separate ways. I think the TV show is still good but would of been better staying true to the books. This book is superior to the TV show.

Sookie Stackhouse, she's a strong female character.

Historia
Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing....

Revisado: 02-26-12
Would you listen to Dead Until Dark again? Why?
I think I would listen to it again. I would do so because I've forgotten so much and I want to finish the series. It's hard to remember what happen in the books vs the TV show.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I can't say it was.
Any additional comments?
True Blood is a good show, this is a good series. Yet I don't think they are at all related. True Blood took a departure from the books and became it's own thing.

To much romance
Revisado: 02-26-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If it was more of a urban ministry and less of a romance novel.
What could C.E. Murphy have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
C.E. Murphy wrote a romance book and that is what it is. I wouldn't think C.E. Murphy would want to change anything. It fit the book that C.E. Murphy was trying for.
What aspect of Christine Carroll???s performance would you have changed?
Nothing

What did you love best about The Dark Deeps?
I loved the story and it's steampunk aspect.
What does Jayne Entwistle bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
Passion, I think the narrator has a passion for audio books. She brought the characters to life for me.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A steampunk mystery for all ages
Any additional comments?

Getting better as it goes
Revisado: 02-25-12
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No I wouldn't, because the first two books in the series wasn't as good as this one. The series has gotten better with each book. Yet I don't know it's worth the trouble to get here.
What three words best describe Gerard Doyle???s voice?
Clean, crisp, & clear
Was Physik worth the listening time?
I think it was worth it, but I don't know if the first books are worth there time.
Any additional comments?
This book wasn't great or was it the worst. This book was better than Magyk and Flyte the other two book in the series. Maybe it's because I'm too old for this book that it took me till book three to really like the series. I haven't decided if I want to go on to the others in the series.
