Two hours in and this story has barely gotten on its feet. I’ve listened to lots of books from this author, and this one was really pretty terrible. I’m sure it ends up happily ever after, but I couldn’t hang with the boring diatribes.

This story has a chance to be great, I feel like the female lead character was naïve to be so REPEATEDLY dumbstruck and confounded by the amount of security needed for Enrico. Even after Google searching him and seeing him potentially linked with the mafia, she never seems to “get it”. Even after he admits that he has brothels, she doesn’t get it. She seems so bothered by the fact that they own guns. Has she never seen a mafia movie? It’s just naïve and seems like willful ignorance. Who did she think she was getting involved with? Then to behave so immaturely when he wakes her in the middle of the night with a security risk, and to argue and fight him on every front, is really frustrating. With 3 hours left I’m going to finish it but her emotional immaturity is becoming painful at this point. All that to say, the lead female character could have had better character development and intelligence. Their chemistry is great, but both hot heads so I suppose the deserve each other. Started out really strong, and I’m hoping it’ll finish better than the latter middle third.

I have too much to say about this to put into words, but I learned so much from the story, learned a perspective of the war that was never taught in schools, and just loved the heart of the story. The characters are real, yet effervescent and bright, Nudging each of us to believe in love.

The story had real promise, but I just archived it with 40 minutes left. I kept waiting for some hope and you got some glimpses of it, but I really did not like the hero in this. He is really broken and ruthless. He shows nearly no tenderness until the very end of the book and then continues with some pretty heartless treatment of her. It would’ve finished well with more tenderness, but even towards the end, when things seem to be starting to wrap up, hope returning, the author dragged the pain and misery out just a bit longer to torture the reader/listener. I just couldn’t finish it. It’s pretty bad when you just don’t care how things turn out.
The relationship between H/h carried lots of codependent emotional manipulation and it just doesn’t work for me-I listen to romance novels to decompress from the stress of the day and this just makes me worry about some other level of BS for the day.
It has some shining moments, some clever plot lines, but all wiped over with the shadows of this man’s pain. Enough is enough already. We get it, he was tortured, he’s broken but he does not need to treat her like crap and speak to her like she’s an idiot because she “doesn’t understand”, and he won’t come out and say things to clear things up for her. It’s so opposite of a romantic love story. The sex scenes are pretty hateful and a bit rape-y.
This one wasn’t for me and I don’t think I’ll read anymore from this author. The narrator is pretty good, but his narration really turned an already dark man into a much more unlikable character in this case.
Disappointed. Even with changing the reading rate to 1.2 and 1.3 speed, it still dragged on.
I prefer a story that’s easy to digest, and I don’t have to take on anyone else’s dark pain for very long, and this one just kept pain fresh, rejection constant, and poor communication between the two throughout the entire novel.
The support characters were much more interesting than the two main characters when it really boils down to it. This is not an endearing romance story, but it had potential to be.

I listened to this after reading other reviews, fully prepared for some of the nuisance issues. I did not think the narrator was terrible, but rather he sounded new to narrating a book. There were a lot of unnecessary pauses in his speech, but I wonder if some of this is cultural or part of his own dialect/speech pattern. It was a bit off putting but i got used to it. I enjoyed his voice in general.
The editor of this book should have definitely called out the author on the repetitious use of the word “solemn”as a description of a facial expression or intention. It was definitely over done and many times could have had a better word to express the emotion. I would’ve noticed it even if I had not already read that this was an issue.
The story was really pretty nice. I feel that some people have been too critical about that, but I will add some feedback that it was much too long and could’ve been whittled down to about a third less time to tell the story. There was definitely opportunity to clean up all the dialogue with fewer words. I actually hit the fast forward button several times and listened to this at 1.2 speed. The title of my review came from the thought I had in my head- that some meetings run on too long and you realize it could’ve just been an email. I don’t know that is all that but it was kind of a funny thought to me. The story would’ve been better had it been more concise.
I really enjoyed the overall theme of the storyline and the characters were endearing. I did enjoy getting to know the different girls that were on property to meet and hopefully marry the main character Campbell. As far as some mystery, I think this was also nicely done. It just seemed like a first attempt at a novel, and it just went on too long. I actually blame the editor for this rather than the author. It was an excellent premise-just needed better editing.
It’s a long book, so if you need some background story while you’re doing your gardening this spring, it’s pleasant!

Just when you think Lydia is the most unsuferrable flirt determined to make her family ridiculous, she does some growing up! Well written, masterfully narrated and with some nice background music and sound effects! Definitely worth your credit!

I have loved this entire series of books, and this fifth installation really brings it all together. My only complaint is that the story seems to go off the rails for a quite a while, more than once and could have been about an hour shorter. There were a lot of side stories that didn’t contribute much to the overall plot, especially the last hour of the book. This is definitely worth a credit, but I did find myself fast forwarding through parts that really made no sense to the overall storyline. Dree and Maxence are an intriguing couple, and their relationship evolution is really richly told, with some good psychological assessments of Maxence’s hangups. It was a nice wrapup of a fantastic series!

These 3 stories are fun with some magic and time travel. A bit predictable, but good rivalries and villains. Steamy sexy times but the storyline is good. Nice narration!

I love Scottish highlander romances, especially when steeped in some relative non-fictional history. What made this story unique and completely entertaining is that bit of magic and a girl raised on a pirate ship. Not all is as you would expect, as the Pirates characters are so nicely developed and there is a lot of heart to the story! Narration by Timothy Campbell is top-notch as always, and he handles lots of different English accents —including those that live along the docks, the Pirates’ dialect, King Henry VIII, and the British nobility. Really fun story, lots of plot twists and turns, and some sizzling moments! I like that bit of magic in the storyline as well as the book that precedes it, but it certainly isn’t over the top. Wonderful female relationships, and lots of nurturing hearts in this story, I hope you enjoy it!
