It is rather like class in criminality. .
Revisado: 02-14-25
Really is like entries in a notebook from a criminology class in undergrad. I took one.
It doesn’t read like a typical nonfiction/fiction book with a singular story. Jumps around. No thanks.

Historia
Everyone from Wakarusa, Indiana, remembers the infamous case of January Jacobs, who was discovered in a ditch hours after her family awoke to find her gone. Margot Davies was six at the time, the same age as January—and they were next-door neighbors. In the twenty years since, Margot has grown up, moved away, and become a big-city journalist. But she’s always been haunted by the feeling that it could’ve been her. And the worst part is, January’s killer has never been brought to justice.

I couldn’t keep going. Left story with 1.5 hrs left
Revisado: 08-13-23
The plot was very like the JonBennet
Ramsey murder case in Boulder CO, 1996, which remains unsolved. I couldn’t get past it. Lots of clichés throughout. The reader is very familiar and her voice given to males in the story is distracting. Not in a good way. I am having poor luck with finding a really great murder/suspense/
drama. 🙁

Historia
On the way to hurricane-ravaged Isle of Palms, a barrier island off the South Carolina coast, Tempe receives a call from the Charleston coroner. The storm has tossed ashore a medical waste container. Inside are two decomposed bodies wrapped in plastic and bound with electrical wire. Tempe recognizes many of the details as identical to those of an unsolved case she handled in Quebec 15 years earlier. With a growing sense of foreboding, she travels to Montreal to gather evidence. Meanwhile, health authorities in South Carolina become alarmed as a human flesh-eating contagion spreads.

Meh.
Revisado: 11-16-22
Did not engage me. Story was predictable. Fair amount of repetition. The narrator was fine. I quit listening when killer was revealed, not staying beyond the holiday meal. Have had bad luck with mysteries for a long time. I guess I will go back to fiction.

The story did not capture me.
Revisado: 05-20-22
A futuristic plot, with the lead character
working to outsmart The Watchers: those in authority that endlessly monitor individuals to assure rules/laws of society are being followed. Control control. Reminiscent of The Handmaids Tale. Controlled behavior. Controlled thinking. Controlled everything.
Each story has a heroine who challenges The Absolute Authority, finding their way to keep their minds right and their true compass alive.

My iPhone kept me frustrated. For some reason bit was not keeping my place on the tape when I stopped listening, then later resumed. Very off. I had to keep listening and going backward or forward in plot. The book is in 3 parts. Sometimes it went from part 1 to part 3. Yes, I rebooted my phone a couple of times.
Plot was meh. Rather predictable after stage was set. Overall, not a great experience.

Historia
It’s been a decade since Trumanell Branson disappeared, leaving only a bloody handprint behind. Her pretty face still hangs like a watchful queen on the posters on the walls of the town’s Baptist church, the police station, and in the high school. They all promise the same thing: We will find you. Meanwhile, Tru's brother, Wyatt, lives as a pariah in the desolation of the old family house, cleared of wrongdoing by the police but tried and sentenced in the court of public opinion and in a new documentary about the crime.

Tiny town that has had two missing girls, presumed murdered, and their friend who aches to find out what happened to them.
Revisado: 05-28-21
Painted a very good pic of characters and settings of town, the smell of perfume and old dust and old things. Rooms, memories. A murderer in lain sight. Girlhood best friends in tiny town. Tiny tired town with a history of 2 missing girls. A murderer living in plain sight. One young woman’s quest to find her friends and what happened to them. Personal tragedies and grief. A search for truth and closure.

Historia
In her career as an Army intelligence officer, Amy Cornwall has seen haunting sights half a world away. None compare to the chilling scene at her Virginia home. It is empty. Now, and in open defiance of Army Command, Amy must employ every lethal tactic she has to save them. To succeed, she must discover not only who dispatched her on this mission, but why. Without her family, she's dead anyway.

I tried to like it. Can’t. I made it thru 7 chapters.
Revisado: 05-06-20
I love suspense mysteries. This book kept causing me to eye roll until I could stand it no longer.
Lead character woman and mother with Federal Agency creds and history has arrived home, opening door to her house & has urgent sense of foreboding. No sounds of fam. life. So she moves room to room.... searching with dread in her heart.... And here we have a history lesson on gaberdine fabric, and full descript. of a trench coat down to “buttons and D rings.” Really? 🙄. Plot slow. She works for Coronors Office. And of course has to take her missing family’s case into her own hands....with help of typical gruff, salty, crabby detective who swears a lot and is devoid of social skills. Too Cliché for this listener. Will check back and see what others think.

Historia
The "maddog" murderer who is terrorizing the Twin Cities is two things: insane and extremely intelligent. He kills for the pleasure of it and thoroughly enjoys placing elaborate obstacles to keep police befuddled. Each clever move he makes is another point of pride. But when the brilliant Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, a dedicated cop and a serial killer's worst nightmare, is brought in to take up the investigation, the maddog suddenly has an adversary worthy of his genius.

Not what I was expecting.
Revisado: 08-24-19
Plot was rather predictable. Some musings and trailing descriptions were over the top, and didn’t contribute to the story. Tough cop, serial killer, damsel in distress.
