Historia
Islands, Oceans, and Dreams is a true story of a man who, at the age of 33, began dreaming of voyaging with his wife to the South Pacific. He wasn't an adventurer or daring by nature, but he bought a boat and began learning the ways of the sea. Twenty years later, racked with the pain of divorce and still aching to live out his dream, he set off alone for Tahiti. After reaching French Polynesia, he continued cruising for seven years and wound up solo sailing around the world. Islands, Oceans, and Dreams takes the listener on that voyage.

Historia
At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

A little dull.
Revisado: 10-09-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The overall design of the chapters is fairly silly.
Would you recommend Yes Please to your friends? Why or why not?
Two or three chapters are worth keeping. It is all down hill after those.
How could the performance have been better?
Maybe another main narrator.
Was Yes Please worth the listening time?
Unfortunately, no.
Any additional comments?
I had high hopes for this otherwise talented person, but after chapter three, hope faded.

Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared....

Man is a mad creation; wonders of glory, horror
Revisado: 08-27-15
Would you listen to Unbroken again? Why?
The story makes one feel really alive to all the wonders, and horrors, of life and war, and the reality of the strong spirit that keeps the vulnerable body alive.
What other book might you compare Unbroken to and why?
The book brings to mind many a sea tale- from "Fatal Voyage: "The Sinking of the Indianapolis," to Ïslands of the Damned" to heroic - and doomed - voyages of discovery, although it is not fully any of these.
What does Edward Herrmann bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator seems to have moments channeling Franklin Roosevelt, a central figure in the book's era. Mr. Herrmann has the calm voice needed to narrate such a deeply nerve-wracking tale, completely avoiding the hyperbolic and verbal exclamation point. It is as if he was telling his guests the story by his fireside.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
In a ocean of horror, there is glory in survival.
Any additional comments?
Research made this book very satisfying; the lack of jingoism and hyperbole made it real.

Historia
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Craig Wasson could make anything interesting
Revisado: 05-15-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Have recommended this book to fellow New Englanders and old Stephen King readers; it is a long ride that still rings of King's old novels, read satisfyingly by Craig Wasson. Mr Wasson is like a stage show hiding in a tiny MP3 player.
What was one of the most memorable moments of 11-22-63?
There are many, but the Down East moments are my favorites. Great accents by the reader are laugh aloud entertaining.
Have you listened to any of Craig Wasson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This reader feels like a new and satisfying discovery. I do believe I would listen to an audiobook I would never before have considered if he is reading it.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
It's not your job
Any additional comments?
