Historia
With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century.

Love the story, but.
Revisado: 01-13-23
I've read the books many times. I couldn't get past the first chapter. The narration wasn't what I expected. The inflection wasn't right for me.

I really want to like this series, but it doesn't hold my attention. I think the stories are good, but I can't get invested in any of the characters. the narration approach doesn't work for me.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

I like the writing, premise, and narrator. However, I struggled to finish. The story seemed to go off the rails from time to time and didn't keep my interest.

I tried.
Revisado: 11-24-22
The stories from Carola Dunn are good, but the narration makes my brain vibrate. it is too pitchy in tone and the accents and children's voices are overdone. I've tried 3x and I will continue with the author in print. I still don't know whodunit in the 3. books I've tried to listen to.

Worst Narration Ever
Revisado: 11-06-22
I could not take the narration of this book. It was totally the wrong style, pitch, range. I can't really tell if I like the story. I'm giving it a 3 because I have liked the author's writing previously. I use Kindle text-to-speech a lot, and that is better than this. Way better.

Historia
The stuff of conspiracy theories makes for great, entertaining stories in movies, books, and television. And there is no shortage of subjects: from who really killed JFK to the truth behind 9/11. And then, there are subjects from alien invasions to the Moon landing was simulated - theories that are truly out of this world, which according to some, is flat. Many of these crazy concepts have jumped off the pages or screens to become so pervasive in our culture that thousands - even millions - subscribe to them as reality.

I'll give this series one more try.
Revisado: 08-16-21
I generally enjoy the characters and the storyline of these mysteries. However, I sadly must give the narrator a "2" on this one. she was too shrill on most of the female characters and too low on the male voices. The men sounded constipated. One more try, I believe she narrates the next books as well. I've listened to her before, but this didn't seem as annoying. If it's as it is, I will switch to reading the series.

For some reason, the characters agitated me.
Revisado: 06-23-21
I couldn't get behind the character of Jenny. To me she was not likeable. As the title says, they all agitated me for some reason or another. Sometimes the story can carry the book, but this was just not it. I've liked other books by the author, so I will try another. The narrator was pretty good. A good background story while I do crossword puzzles.

Historia
At first glance, the death of media mogul “Big Bill” Argosy appears to be suicide. But his widow, Laila, thinks otherwise. Because Big Bill made enemies - lots of them. And he’d rather fight to the death than take his own life. When the authorities refuse to investigate, Laila turns to the one person who can see connections in the universe where others can’t: Zip Ono, a young private investigator - and practicing Buddhist. Zip quickly learns that there’s no shortage of suspects who might very well want Argosy dead.
