Ruined by the narrator

This premise had promise. It could have been a good story but for three things. 1. the point of view changed so many times my head was on a swivel. 2. Not one single character had any redeeming qualities that would inspire you to root for them. Finally, the narrator. The disgusted sneer with which he reads each word is so prominent it should be a named character.

I wanted suspense, mystery, and twists. What I got was a never ending parade of miserable people in miserable circumstances. The narration was great though.

I generally love Koontz books but this was a swing and a miss. Story and character development were really lacking. I know it's a short story but I expected a lot more. Seems like he phoned this one in. At least it was free and I'm only out 2 hours of my time.
