a great story not well performed
Revisado: 11-04-24
this story is very good and helped keep my attention even though it was not well read by this performer. there were periods early on that seemed like Mr diggs couldn't care about reading and was reading it for the first time as it was performed. characters weren't given voices. he sounded like he had no desire to go to the next page. it was read dryly and no thought went into the performance. there were parts where I focused on how bad the performance was and forgot about listening to the great story. eventually towards the end characters did receive a bit of characterization... a change in dialect or something subtle helped bring a little more life like Mr diggs has been coached on his performance 3/4 of the way thru the book. maybe he was suddenly enjoying the book. I think they should have someone else redo this book. there were strange parts where it sounded like a few words here or there in a middle or end of a sentence had to be rerecorded. the tone of voice changed as if someone else read it in the style of the performer. I don't know what those were, but it takes you out of the moment in listening.

Historia
Glen Runciter runs a lucrative business - deploying his teams of anti-psychics to corporate clients who want privacy and security from psychic spies. But when he and his top team are ambushed by a rival, he is gravely injured and placed in "half-life," a dreamlike state of suspended animation. Soon, though, the surviving members of the team begin experiencing some strange phenomena, such as Runciter's face appearing on coins and the world seeming to move backward in time.

ok. slightly confusing. dated
Revisado: 10-12-24
this book was okay. overall it was just okay. I wouldn't say it's much more than okay because it's just okay.
I chose this book based on the author and was hoping for some thought-provoking ideas. unfortunately it hasn't left me with anything to ponder after listening to the book. except for maybe the fact that I didn't quite catch the ending, so it left me a little confused. but I don't feel like rereading the last chapter because it really just wasn't worth it for to me.
I don't know when this book was written guessing the 60s or the 70s because setting it into the 90s seems a little odd. I would have thought it better too said it further into the future but that's just me.
would I recommend reading this book? no, unless you really love this author or have to read every single of his books or really like listening to this performer. but even then I'd say pass.
just my two cents take it for what it's worth in this economy.

this book was well written and will performed. I recommend it. I love the performers ability to bring life to every character. I especially loved the evil character.

good but long winded
Revisado: 08-08-24
the story is good but takes a long time with many distractions to tell. Perhaps I'm missing something or a piece that will tie in later. it just feels like it needs a ruthless editor. none the less, it is well wriitten overall and is performed well. I did want a country bumpkin to English dictionary a bit. I'll start the next book because I'd like to know a bit more.

STOP. You should not have touched this flyer with your bare hands. NO, don't put it down. It's too late. They're watching you. My name is David Wong. My best friend is John. Those names are fake. You might want to change yours. You may not want to know about the things you'll read on these pages, about the sauce, about Korrok, about the invasion, and the future. But it's too late. You touched the book. You're in the game. You're under the eye. The only defense is knowledge. You need to read this book, to the end. Even the part with the bratwurst. Why?

a bit hard to follow at times
Revisado: 07-15-24
there were times when I was listening to the book and it suddenly switched to the characters were talking and I got lost a few times and assumed maybe I had a bad download of the book, but nope.. That's the Way it was written. so there are times when it was hard to follow what was going on. the story is interesting, but I really wouldn't recommend it. the performance is good.

another good book
Revisado: 04-23-24
the ongoing adventures of sookie stackhouse continue to keep me riveted. the sexual tension, the violence, and adventures of this demure Christian woman has an all to interesting life for a barmaid. it is well written... but I do wish it would have taken her back to her home before ending. but that's a minor flaw and maybe what helps draw readers to the next book. I recommend this book to the super natural lovers who like some sexual romance without getting too sexually icky but definitely enjoys violently icky.

Historia
Jacques McKeown is the most celebrated author of star-pilot fiction in the galaxy. He's rich, famous, and living in luxury, and his universe-wide fanbase eagerly awaits any news of his next book. There's just one small hitch. He's not Jacques McKeown. He's Dashford Pierce, star pilot and con artist, and if only the impatient calls from his publisher were the worst of his problems. There's also the last vestige of the Henderson crime gang, trouble brewing in the retired star-pilot community, and a small matter of somebody trying to kill him.

another awesome book
Revisado: 04-15-24
the story, the performance, the writing, the substories... were all great. I recommend this book but make sure to read the first two. I'm hoping there is a fourth book. the humor in this story is just as good as the others. I love his dry sarcastic wit. the development of the antihero is cool.

Historia
Defeating the world-ending demon was only the beginning. Now Maine must wrestle with the very fabric of reality. Maine defeated the Corrupter, saved the world, and is dating the man of her dreams. Things should be smooth sailing from now on. She deserves a boring, normal-ish life, doesn't she? Fate has other ideas in mind. The defeat of the Corrupter left a power void that needs to be filled. A strange mist surrounds Rainwater. Most dismiss it as a weird weather phenomenon, but creatures who enter the mists don't leave the same.

disturbing
Revisado: 03-30-24
the story told here is disturbing in many ways. admittedly it is a work of fiction, not reality. but the idea that somebody could put this story together is amazing. the afterwards by the author is a brief glimpse into his psyche, and I think I want to now read more of his books because of it. this is one of those books for me that will probably stick with me for a little bit simply on the disgust level, never wanting to live a reality where this story could be true. the 2 primary characters are interesting, and I wouldn't mind sitting down for a talk with them 5 to 10 years after the story ended to learn more about them. I would like to get to know Tim better too... how does a single person do what he did? what type of person can do his former job and also be this type of protector? I recommend this book if you aren't squeamish. you have to be able to handle gore and a deep look into the negative abyss of humanity... and inhumanity.

good but ends abruptly
Revisado: 03-20-24
the book was good. good listen. I would recommend it. it did feel like the author decided about three quarters of the way through that they didn't want to write a really long book so they just started speeding through sections. but again it could have gotten them monotonous, so maybe that's why they chose that. you just felt really sped up. which was good in some ways, but didn't always make a lot of sense in other ways. but I would still recommend the book to those who like science fiction, strategy.
