Historia
This modern classic of social history and media traces the precipitous decline of childhood in America today, and the corresponding threat to the notion of adulthood. Deftly marshaling a vast array of research, Neil Postman suggests that childhood is a recent invention. But now the division between child and adult is eroding under the barrage of television, which turns the adult secrets of sex and violence into entertainment and pitches news and advertising at the intellectual level of 10-year-olds.

Dry but important
Revisado: 09-15-21
This book suffered a bit from being too academic and dry but it was very interesting. While severely dated in content it is obvious what direction the society has gone since the 80s in terms of the concept of Childhood. The book offers few answers but provokes reflection on the society at large trying to kill the idea of childhood.

The star of Parks and Recreation and author of the New York Times best seller Paddle Your Own Canoe returns with a second book that humorously highlights 21 figures from our nation’s history, from her inception to present day - Nick’s personal pantheon of “great Americans". After the great success of his autobiography, Paddle Your Own Canoe, Offerman now focuses on the lives of those who inspired him. From George Washington to Willie Nelson, he describes 21 heroic figures and why they inspire in him such great meaning.

Filled with cheap political jabs
Revisado: 09-14-21
I'm fine disagreeing with someone's politics. I know Offerman is writing as a humorist and not a historian. Still expected something more than just generic political jabs sprinkled throughout especially when they are so overwhelmingly generic. At least strive for originality.

Okay. not great.
Revisado: 08-19-21
I struggled to finish this book. It feels very retro. the bad guys are omnipotent with no real reason. the sense of danger or weight of anything that happens is non existent. It was okay. For an omnibus nothing really happens. the distinction between books is largely arbitrary.

Overall if I had to focus on one flaw characters occasionally know of a stupid decision and jump in head first. I'm assuming this is meant to reflect youth but it comes off more as stupidity. Still it isn't a deal breaker.

Historia
America's Great Plains once possessed one of the grandest wildlife spectacles of the world, equaled only by such places as the Serengeti, the Masai Mara, or the veld of South Africa. Pronghorn antelope, gray wolves, bison, coyotes, wild horses, and grizzly bears: less than 200 years ago these creatures existed in such abundance that John James Audubon was moved to write "it is impossible to describe or even conceive the vast multitudes of these animals".

Historia
The British win the American Revolutionary War, and a desperate Washington and the American founders must make a last stand in an enclave called Liberty. In 1781, George Washington's attempt to trap the British under Cornwallis at Yorktown ends catastrophically when the French fleet is destroyed in the Battle of the Capes. The revolution collapses, and the British begin a bloody reign of terror. A group of rebels flees westward and sets up a colony near what is now Chicago. They call it Liberty.

It was hard to score this one. The ending never felt in doubt. No huge surprises. The villains were fairly standard. Nothing extraordinary but nothing bad.

Historia
America is hopelessly divided, but more worryingly, the ideas and “mystic chords of memory” that rest at the cornerstone of our civilization and bind the generations are being severed, attacked, and forgotten. The left has set out to shatter these bonds with a war on American history - the fundamental concepts, institutions, and icons that make our country what it is. And we have failed to protect our history, allowing Hollywood, educators, and the media to rewrite the story of America. We have ignored the invaluable lessons of our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.

Revisado: 06-29-21
This is absolute proof you need an editor and to workshop books. All the baddies seem omnipotent. World building is largely ignored. The main characters backstory seems to change a good deal. Too much action without enough character building so as characters die you can't even think of who they were.
Still I enjoyed it a bit.
