Edited and distributed by Arthur Bell Nicholls, two years after Brontë's death, it is based on her experiences of living as a language student in Brussels. Historia
Deeply distressed at thought of his singularly money-minded family circling around his inevitable death bed, when Old Martin Chuzzlewit comes across a young and kindly orphan girl, he immediately decides to take her into his employment. Offering her a comfortable living in exchange for her care and protection, Martin rests easy in the knowledge that her comfort will last only as long as he does; upon his death, Mary the orphan will find herself on the cold and dirty streets from whence she came.

Dickens in his finest humor
Revisado: 08-25-24
I, like Dickens himself, don’t understand how this delightful tale was not better received. His wit and insight are as sharp here as any of his more acclaimed works. Loved every minute of it!

Legend has it that when the Gabriel Hounds run howling over the crumbling palace of Dar Ibrahim, high in the Adonis Valley of Lebanon, death will follow on their heels. Revisado: 04-20-23
I now want Daphne Kouma narrating all my beloved Mary Stewart novels - and all my other favorites! Perfect tale finally having the voice my head knew it should have. Perfectly done!
Hard to pick a favorite when it comes to Mary’s novels, as she always succeeds in transporting you right out of yourself and immersing you in rich and beautifully woven tales that grip from first to last page - so delighted I can revisit them all now in audio version, and ever so pleased with myself with choosing this particular delight first, reminding me happily why I read and re-read her books as a young adult. Thanks to the English teacher who introduced me to the worlds of Mary Stewart with the Crystal Cave, and all the delightfully spent hours exploring the rest of her works- and thanks again to Daphne Noumi for doing such justice to the tale - giving it the voice it richly deserves. ❤️

I was a little hesitant about getting this audible because I had so thoroughly enjoyed the full cast audiobook series His Dark Materials with Mr. Pullman (wished THAT could go on forever!), but Michael Sheen is a delight, the story gripping, thrilling & oh so fully satisfying to this now addict of Mr. Pullman’s works. Moving right on to volume 2 with greedy happy anticipation! Yay in every way! 😍
