Historia
The elite crew of the pirate ship UNS Flying Dutchman had a simple mission: determining whether the Thuranin are sending another starship to Earth. Along the way, they became sidetracked by securing a future for the UNEF troops on the planet Paradise. When asked whether Earth was now safe, their ancient alien AI responded "Not so much"...now they have to deal with the consequences.

This is probably the Best book in the first 10, Skippy hasn't started his full total asshole arc yet, but it's building.

Historia
Colonel Joe Bishop made a promise and he's going to keep it; taking the captured alien starship Flying Dutchman back out. He doesn't agree when the UN decides to send almost 70 elite Special Operations troops, hotshot pilots, and scientists with him; the mission is a fool's errand he doesn't expect to ever return from. At least, this time, the Earth is safe, right? Not so much.

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

probably the best overall in the series.

later books fall into the "one up" death serial. once you start the "end of the world" trap, you have to keep upping the ante over and over and over... when a simple slice of Life story tossed in would be wonderful.

Historia
Yuutan is the homeland of a living legend, a place that birthed Holvti. A nation on the coast of the great ocean where Tiberaasian smiths ply their trade, making master-crafted weapons, and whose guardsmen patrol in armor that gleamed like stained glass in the sun. For Duren it is the perfect place to get away, relax, repair Lisika's broken sword, and spend some time with his new wife.

Duren and Lisika just want to have a honeymoon and get her sword reforged, not too much to ask, right? but it would seem Ultar has different plans that his wife the goddess of justance would approve of.
bringing the right people together at just rhw right times to administer justice for true, however justified evil. looking forward to the next book.

Historia
As far from explored space as any human has ever been, Geary and the Alliance fleet are on their own, protecting a diplomatic mission in territory belonging to an alien species with still-unknown motives. His already complex and dangerous mission is further imperiled by deadly challenges from other human factions seeking to harm or exploit the aliens. When another alien species whose technology is far more advanced than humanity’s arrives, the stakes are raised to the highest possible level.

Revisado: 07-11-23
The ending is the worst part because I know that I must wait until the next. Oh, how I miss the days when I fist discovered John Hemry's work and could go from book to book. If you are reading this John, I eagerly await the next one. Thank you!

Historia
The story continues; our heroes have made it to Eden, only to realize their new home is one of many Earths. It's a world worth fighting for, but they aren't the only people who think so. Coexistence and peace are alien concepts to a new enemy that doesn't have a word for retreat.

Historia
Jason has a problem. He doesn't remember anything before waking up on a school bus holding hands with a girl. Apparently she's his girlfriend Piper, his best friend is a kid named Leo, and they're all students in the Wilderness School, a boarding school for "bad kids." What he did to end up here, Jason has no idea—except that everything seems very wrong.

Love the author. absolutely hate the narrators.
Revisado: 03-30-23
I will actively avoid any books read by the person reading Pipers parts from now on. I hope you read this.. I dread listening to your fake over emphatic almost disdainful rendition of pipers character. she has tried to blend in her whole life and here you are making the word "see" into 15 Syllables with 22 vocal inflections. and to the narrator for leo... the only reason you are not the worst I've ever listened to is because you are in the book with "her".

I really enjoyed book 1.
Revisado: 02-06-23
Book one was great. It was an amazing hard science story of discovery and limitations and growth. the aliens were alien. The dangers were things out of the control of the MC's, things they had to overcome together or through enduring them, grow stronger as a person/character.
book 2. rode in on that wave and became a race to the bottom. Everything bad that happens is due to the authors' need to add conflict and does so by forcing the characters to do really really stupid and out of character things. Adam makes impulsive choices. That's part of his characteristics. He does not, however, make willfully stupid choices.... until book 2. Marcello is an AI. capable of thought faster than us, and has the brain power and scientific background as well as nano tech to come up with solutions that make sense, he also has a disturbing ability in book 2 to almost willfully make really bad judgement calls. not only that, but his robots abilities increase or decrease based solely on the need for "engaging conflict" at one part of the book he is unable to barely scratch a mostly iron/very mild steel and then a few chapters later, starts sniping titanium like butter. He has more delicate sensors than a human even an advanced human like Eve yet is blind to the things Eve is able to see with her McGuffian IR "sight" that just so conveniently manifests when she is trapped all alone in the dark.
Eve, I'll grant that how she was raised would give a very unique set of personality and growth differences than anything we can really imagine here on earth. but how quickly she breaks down from the competent, smart, thoughtful, and clever Girl in book 1 to what she is in book 2 is almost too much to choke down. I reached the end of the book twice and realized I hadn't been paying any attention at all because the last half was just so much contrived bullshit. the author really dropped the ball on this book, and I'm going to spend a while reading the comments on the next one to see if I can glean any redeeming qualities. because not even the massive cliffhanger had me interested.
