The challenge: Spend a week hiding in an abandoned amusement park and don’t get caught. The prize: enough money to change everything. Even though everyone is desperate to win—to seize a dream future or escape a haunting past—Mack is sure she can beat her competitors. All she has to do is hide, and she’s an expert at that. It’s the reason she’s alive and her family isn’t.

One of the worst books I’ve ever experienced
Revisado: 08-09-22
The writing was very poor, the characters uninteresting and gratuitous, and the plot went from mildly interesting to, “this is the dumbest thing I’ve ever read/listened to.”
The narrator had a very unpleasant voice, pronounced words wrong and emphasized words in the wrong places. It was very hard to listen to.

Everything Cora thought she knew about Harrow Faire was a lie. All of it. Now, as the lines in the sand are drawn, as a war for the Heart of the Faire builds, she must discover how much she is willing to sacrifice to save the people she has come to think of as family...and how much of herself she’s willing to give up for the man she has come to love.

Eye rolled through the whole story
Revisado: 07-10-19
(may have spoilers up ahead)
I rolled my eyes way too much while listening to this. From the silly spiritual stuff that didn’t make much sense (why an owl? Why the dreams with Jeremy?), to the shallow relationships, to the story itself that didn’t quite fit right.
I thought the police work described in the book was awful- don’t you think an ABANDONED AREA in a small town would be one of the first places you look when a kid is missing- not even FBI thought to look there? How did it take 10 years to solve that? Why weren’t people taken in for questioning instead of casually being spoken to off the record? Why was it so easy to solve 10 years later with no evidence, just epiphany? It was just dumb.
A lot of the characters seemed unnecessary, and I also thought it was really lame how much Shelby cared about her high school past and defined her old school mates by who they were then. Also Anna was an awful character and I don’t believe she deserved redemption- it’s one thing to be a child and make a mistake, it’s another to grow up, let someone else pay for your crime, and have the audacity to be a huge bitch to everyone instead of trying to be a worth while human being.

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Just okay
Revisado: 01-24-19
I was a bit disappointed by this book. The writing itself had some good moments, but the story was lacking. It was anticlimactic at almost every turn, where every time you felt like the story was building to something interesting, the writer let’s you down and takes the easy way out instead of committing. I usually become very invested in a character but I felt indifferent to Adah and Jack, and I didn’t feel moved by their romance at all. It wasn’t horrible, it just wasn’t satisfying and I would recommend that you save your money.
