Mis-remembering my geography The Isle of Skye?
Revisado: 04-04-25
Almost any Dalgliesh mystery, is like a mental excursion to the country he speaks of. This one does not disappoint! It’s like the visit to a remote part of Scotland this lady will never visit. Full of surprises and wonderful character development. A delightful read.

A Stand alone superior
Revisado: 02-16-25
Of course, Anne Cleeves surprises with that actual person that committed the deed.! However, I have read the whole Jimmy Perez series in sequence, and found her treatment of Jimmy’s responses, to the “situation” not true to his character that has been developed so far. An opinion, another country heard from him. I’ll leave it at that. I do love this character, and Ms. Cleves’ writing of course is peerless Overall, an excellent book (I had the murder pinned on another character) Of course I’m always wrong. Overall, a great listen.

Historia
Fiona, Sue, and Daisy, three retired ladies who volunteer at the local charity shop, Dogs Need Nice Homes, can’t believe their favorite customer is dead. Eighty-six-year-old Sarah Brown was found murdered in her hallway by her delivery man, a domino clutched in her hand—with a name scratched on it. When another person is found dead with a domino in their hand, and with the police making no progress, the ladies will need to help unmask a serial killer. At least they have Fiona’s scruffy-haired terrier cross to assist them.

Silly and contrived
Revisado: 01-31-25
I should’ve returned this book about 10 hours in. It was mildly amusing and clever, however, it was also stupid and way too long. I wish I would’ve returned it. I chose it because I wanted a break from Ann Cleeves and JM Dalgleish; that was my mistake. The narrator was quite good, however, this book was not a serious mystery, I would describe it better as ridiculous and diversionary.

Historia
The year is 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

Revisado: 11-20-24
Barbara Rosenblatt’s narration was hilarious and excellent! Storyline was funny and interesting and I was shocked by the ending! Didn’t see that one coming. Almost threw it out at the very end and then the surprise. was a riot. It was delightful and I’ll order the next one in the series.

Too Dark
Revisado: 10-30-24
Loved all the other Cameron Winter books in the series. This one I was highly anticipating and even bought it ahead of time. However, the whole storyline was plodding too much interior on what was going on in Cameron‘s life, I thought the storyline regarding Charlotte and her past with Cameron moved along too slowly and I found it silly after a while. Men don’t think that way. I felt like it was a bit contrived and written more for women. This one I just wasn’t a fan of. Sorry.

Historia
In 1850, an impoverished twenty-five-year-old named Fredericka Mandelbaum came to New York in steerage and worked as a peddler on the streets of Lower Manhattan. By the 1870s she was a fixture of high society and an admired philanthropist. How was she able to ascend from tenement poverty to vast wealth? In the intervening years, “Marm” Mandelbaum had become the country’s most notorious “fence”—a receiver of stolen goods—and a criminal mastermind.

An astounding an American woman
Revisado: 08-29-24
The narration and story of this very compelling American woman during the Victorian age had me spellbound. I literally could not stop listening. So much information about life in America, immigrants, poverty and her ingenious planning and running of the organization. It was masterful and brilliant.
I kept reminding myself. I never learned this in school, ever. Definitely a book worth a listen!

Silly and predictable
Revisado: 08-28-24
Rather juvenile and unimaginative. At first, I thought it was going to be more complex and interesting,, it was really was just girls solve a mystery about World war 2 during the 70s and the hippie generation scenarios. Rather contrived and campy.. I was surprised at the ending, however, I wouldn’t put it on my “you’ve got to read this” list.

Historia
The Kennedy name has long been synonymous with wealth, power, glamor, and—above all else—integrity. But this carefully constructed veneer hides a dark truth: the pattern of Kennedy men physically and psychologically abusing women and girls, leaving a trail of ruin and death in each generation’s wake. Through decades of scandal after scandal—from sexual assaults to reputational slander, suicides to manslaughter—the family and their defenders have kept the Kennedy brand intact.

Revisado: 08-15-24
Impressively researched and well documented as far as I remember. I was in Louisiana the day the newspaper read President Kennedy shot in Dallas. I had to literally fast-forward this book, when I heard the details of Maryjo Kopechni’s death. Compelling and a book no one should forget when they remember whatever we thought was the Kennedys in “Camelot.”

A Most Significant woman
Revisado: 05-28-24
I loved listening to this beautiful story about such an interesting woman. Her life chronicles from when she was a little girl, and took you on a journey through different years, countries and art experiences. I loved the exposure and the education I received regarding art. It was delightful to listen to the narrator who introduced you to each different storyline. I would recommend this book to any person that was interested in art of the past and interesting life. Isabella was a woman who significantly contributed to American art and peoples opportunity to be exposed to it. I’m grateful.
