Historia
The Upanishads represent the loftiest heights of ancient Indo-Aryan thought and culture. They form the wisdom portion or Gnana-Kanda of the Vedas, as contrasted with the Karma-Kanda or sacrificial portion. In each of the four great Vedas known as Rik, Yajur, Sama and Atharva there is a large portion which deals predominantly with rituals and ceremonials, and which has for its aim to show man how by the path of right action he may prepare himself for higher attainment.

Narrator mumbles in monotone.
Revisado: 09-23-23
The Upanishads are Sacred. My review is not about the content, I'm rating the narrator.

Historia
A stevedore on the San Francisco docks in the 1940s, Eric Hoffer wrote philosophical treatises in his spare time while living in the railroad yards. The True Believer - the first and most famous of his books - was made into a best seller when President Eisenhower cited it during one of the earliest television press conferences.

Historia
Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

Narration is talented, tremendous.
Revisado: 04-12-13
Would you listen to Blood Meridian again? Why?
I've listened to Blood Meridian multiple times. Richard Poe's narration is expert. There are 5+ characters in many scenes, and he creates different voices, tones and speed of delivery for each one. Mr. Poe must have read and studied characters of the book, because he matches the character's personality with their voice.
This is one of three books i feel have the best narration:
* Blood Meridian - Richard Poe
* Beyond Good and Evil - Alex Jennings
* Great Gatsby - Tim Robbins
All these books take a lot of effort to narrate effectively.
Highly recommended.

Historia
Continuing where Thus Spoke Zarathustra left off, Nietzsche's controversial work Beyond Good and Evil is one of the most influential philosophical texts of the 19th century and one of the most controversial works of ideology ever written. Attacking the notion of morality as nothing more than institutionalised weakness, Nietzsche criticises past philosophers for their unquestioning acceptance of moral precepts. Nietzsche tried to formulate what he called "the philosophy of the future".

Great Book, great Audio Narration
Revisado: 01-07-11
I won't drone on about the wealth of knowledge in this book. I will say i've listened to it twice since i got it two weeks ago, and i will keep listening to it. I find it very practical.
-
The narration and production of this book is exceptional. Like any book, it's difficult to read to others, and communicate the nuance. Jennings & McMillan bring this production through with excellence. Even Jennings tone, a slight snear, really plays well, because Nietzsche himself writes with a slight snear.
Contrast this production with one i downloaded from "Librovox". Librovox allows non-professionals to record a book, and upload it. I downloaed Nietzsche's "The Gay Science", and i couldn't get through the first chapters. The narrator couldn't communicate the spirit and intent of the book. This production achieves that.
