Growing up as a woman of color in America is very interesting and different when you compare it to that of the women in Dagara culture. This book opened my eyes a lot to a lot of healing and purpose I’ve missed out on simply because of my upbringing and what I’ve been exposed to. I loved hearing about how they celebrate a woman’s first menstrual period, just as much as I loved hearing about how they interpret death and grief. I appreciate this book so much because it has truly given me insight into what beliefs or traditions I want to instill in my life going forward. It’s never too late to start over!

I just read “The Secret” on Audible right before this book and man it was like it had a vendetta against all of the law of attraction teachings-kind of a negative tone overall to this book. Besides that, I HATED the borderline robotic narrator voice! It was hard at times to stay engaged because of that. I feel like you could get the same information from this book in a thousand others, my advice? Keep scrolling past this.
