Historia
In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

The historical context and importance of America’s peaceful transfer of power.
Revisado: 12-12-23
Liz Cheney has put forth a powerful and compelling view of our country and constitution as it relates to presidential character and the rule of law that is critical to our democracy. I am so tired of 3 long years of Trump saying he won and the anguish he has cast upon this nation. I applaud Liz for sharing an amazingly detailed view of the work of the January 6th committee to help us fully appreciate the risks our country faces when any candidate for office will only accept election results when they win. This should be required reading for voters. Maybe if it comes out in a movie version more people will see how critical the peaceful transfer of power is to our republic. A great lesson in history, relevant today.

Hard to listen but I like the story.

The horrors of the slave trade in Britain come to painful life in this late 1700’s novel. Listen and be inspired by the two main characters as they navigate the the slave/master relationship and the time of the “gentry” control over social and political life. Excellent narration.

Quite a tribute to the brave and inspiring women of the mid 20th century living in east Kentucky. The author and reader bring to life the hardships and triumphs of those seeking to improve their lives through literacy. Highly recommend both Troublesome Creek books.

Historia
Ty Seidule grew up revering Robert E. Lee. From his southern childhood to his service in the US Army, every part of his life reinforced the Lost Cause myth: that Lee was the greatest man who ever lived, and that the Confederates were underdogs who lost the Civil War with honor. Now, as a retired brigadier general and Professor Emeritus of History at West Point, his view has radically changed. From a soldier, a scholar, and a southerner, Ty Seidule believes that American history demands a reckoning.

Humbling, eye opening, inspiring.
Revisado: 04-26-21
One of the most powerful books I’ve listened to. The author/narrator was extraordinary. He shares his personal history as an admittedly privileged white youth from Virginia to an awakened military historian. His understanding of the civil war from a political perspective and the southern lost cause mentality can help us all come to grips with the south’s fight to continue slavery and the treasonous action by southern military leaders led by Robert E Lee to preserve that horrendous institution. I encourage all to listen/read this book if you are looking for “truths” in this sad part of our American history.

Historia
Cyril Avery is not a real Avery - or at least that's what his adoptive parents tell him. And he never will be. But if he isn't a real Avery, then who is he? Born out of wedlock to a teenage girl cast out from her rural Irish community and adopted by a well-to-do if eccentric Dublin couple via the intervention of a hunchbacked Redemptorist nun, Cyril is adrift in the world, anchored only tenuously by his heartfelt friendship with the infinitely more glamourous and dangerous Julian Woodbead.

A friend told me......
Revisado: 04-19-19
Best book she’d listened to. It’s now up there in my top 5 since I can’t pick a #1. What an eye opening saga of a gay person, down life’s unpredictable road. The exposure to life, or more specifically, Catholic life in mid century Ireland, contrasted with the liberal environment of Amsterdam, to the early days of the AIDs crisis in NYC, to modern day....was extraordinary. And my, how we’ve evolved and become a more accepting society. Heartbreaking, gut wrenching, love/hate, and redemptive experiences in this beautiful novel. Narrator Steven Hogan was excellent. Thank you friend.

Historia
Here at last is a history of England that is designed to entertain as well as inform and that will delight the armchair traveler, the tourist, or just about anyone interested in history. No people have engendered quite so much acclaim or earned so much censure as the English: extolled as the Athenians of modern times, yet hammered for their self-satisfaction and hypocrisy. But their history has been a spectacular one.

Revisado: 12-22-18
Truly enjoyed the delivery and succinctness of this book. I know I now have a quick reference guide I can refer to when trying to determine the lineage of Britain’s royalty. Also includes a clear picture of the major historical events since 1066. Enjoyed immensely!

Important China trip preparation
Revisado: 08-06-18
Listened to this Great Course before my first trip to China. I felt so enlightened on my 2 weeks touring the country, visiting so many of the areas discussed in the book. The lecturer was fantastic and his articulation of Chinese names and places was amazing. I now appreciate the development of China through the centuries and what has brought them to this point. Also have heartbreak for the Chinese people who suffered under Dynasties and communism. What an amazing journey, history and culture. Great job professor!

Fascinating spy story
Revisado: 01-28-16
An in depth look into what a CIA agent/spy life looks like and what compels a person to commit treason against one's country. The story was thoroughly investigated and well written. This is also a story about a family who has lost it's way as the result of a father that dismantled their lives through his greed and control. Great performance by the reader.

Great Story, tough to listen to.
Revisado: 06-10-15
This story was extremely well read but the details of the harsh Russian winter and the barbarism of the revolutionary army were very graphic and difficult to listen to. Your heart will break for the family and for Luca as they deal with life and loss.
