Didn't work out for me :(
Revisado: 05-22-22
I only made it up to chapter 18 before stopping and removing it. Hats off to the author for overcoming her problem by reading a book that helped her. And because of that, I feel like this book is really just a long, long, long review of that book. The author details her background, explains how she came across a book she read and how it helped her, and from there on, she no longer suffered from her eating problems.

Disjointed and not to Beaton standard
Revisado: 05-21-22
It took me over 10x of rewinding and relistening to get into this book. Like the last one, the flow and standard is lacking. I’m in two minds of returning this book and finishing up with this series for good because it was so poorly written.

Historia
When Jenny inherits her estranged grandmother’s cottage in Sherwood Forest, she has nothing to lose - no money, no job, no friends, no family to speak of, and zero self-respect. Things can only get better.... Her grumpy but decidedly handsome new neighbour, Mack, has a habit of bestowing unsolicited good deeds on her. And when Jenny is welcomed into a rather unusual book club, life seems to finally be getting more interesting. Instead of reading, the members pledge to complete individual challenges before Christmas.

Disgusting and offensive accent for Asian character - could have ruined the book
Revisado: 10-06-21
Omg the appalling “Asian accent” for one of the characters.
Each time the stereotypical accent came on, I was so distracted by the screaming in my head that I wonder wtf the publishers approved it.
It’s outdated, disgusting and offensive. If the character had more of a part, I’d rate this book ZERO stars purely due to the narration.
Otherwise the narration was good. The story line was predictable and cheesy in some areas, I found the writing style to similar authors in the same genre.

Historia
Gracie Reed is doing just fine. Sure, she was fired by her overly “friendly” boss, and yes, she still hasn’t gotten her mother into the nursing home of their dreams, but she’s healthy, she’s (somewhat) happy, and she’s (mostly) holding it all together. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

Narration brought the book to life
Revisado: 07-26-21
I really wanted to love this book so much.
Storyline: predictable, and trying to pack too many things in.
Narration: excellent and the only thing that made me keep listening on… until I had to just skip to the end after half way through as I couldn’t bring myself to listen to the whole thing.
Even the book says something to the like, that you don’t owe the book anything to have to finish it.

Brilliant autobiography
Revisado: 11-29-20
I am not usually a fan of autobiographies but this one is excellent. I wasn't sure what 'tone' to expect but Obama sets a peaceful, considerate, and slightly humorous voice. I usually listen to books at 1.5x to 1.8x and I thought I'd have to run Obama's book at 2x because he talks so slowly but 1x has been just right.
I think anyone with an open mind would enjoy this book.

Historia
Marvellously atmospheric tale of strangers summoned to a grand but neglected villa on the Italian coast. Each of them has been named in a will, but nobody knows their benefactress.... Four very different people are named in a will. Delia, an opera singer robbed of her voice by illness; George, an idealistic scientist who cannot face what his skills have created; Marjorie, desperately poor and unable to dislodge her writer’s block; and Lucius, ostensibly in control but whose personal life is in chaos.

I just couldn’t finish it :(
Revisado: 09-18-20
I went back to this 5-6 times but I just couldn’t get into the story.
Without giving too much away, I just felt a lack of connection with the characters. And because of that, the story was just too unbelievable to just “go” with.

I bought this as it was recommended as one with a plot twist.
The story is good and the characters are mostly fleshed out so it provides a full, rich experience.
I did predict a little of what happened but I think it was the obvious part.

Excellent until the end
Revisado: 06-30-20
I bought this as I’d read it was a great book with a plot twist in the end.
The plot twist is there but there are inconsistencies throughout the book and the ending seems to have been done in a rush and therefore leaves the listener with many unanswered questions. I found this very frustrating. I am working through a lot of parts in the book over again in my head which I thought would receive an explanation for later it it doesn’t come.
Also, one of the characters is not fully developed but is just plopped into the book at the end and serves as a crucial part.
