Historia
No one knows Freya is actually the daughter of the Cross-Cut Killer, America's most notorious serial killer. Living under a false identity as a detective is isolating but at least Freya's safe. That is until she falls onto the radar of Special Agent River Park and his team. River, Oz, Elijah, and Jude have been chasing the Cross-Cut Killer for years. They're the best the FBI has to offer, not to mention unfairly attractive. They know exactly who the killer is but he's always one step ahead of them. Freya is about to change that.

Narration is choppy and distracting
Revisado: 03-02-25
Both the male and female narrators take these weird pauses mid sentence. It became too distracting to enjoy and finish. It’s unfortunate because the male narrator did a great job of differentiating all the male voices, but it reminded me of William Shatner levels of choppy. I had to switch to the digital version of the book to finish the story.

Historia
When my car is stolen outside my new college dorm, my roommate points me to "The Vigil"—a trio of students who tackle crimes when campus security drops the ball. The last thing I expect walking into the Vigil's office is to find Logan Brooks staring back at me. I want nothing to do with the stepbrother I once had the world's hugest crush on. Two years ago, patching up his mysterious injuries led to a passionate hookup on the bathroom sink. And then he totally ghosted me.

Not my favorite from this author/connected world
Revisado: 08-04-24
This story is set within the Devil’s Dozen world as the other series by this author, but it’s not as good.
The narrators were fine, but the main characters were just young and slightly dumb. The MFC was stubborn about stupid things in the first two books she came off as petulant. In later books, she made so many obvious errors in judgement that it is truly hard to believe she wasn’t killed off by the bad guys.
I get the MMCs are still in college, but their immaturity was handled by alluding to issues from their childhoods, but never actually explained or addressed. Overall, I stopped listening a few times just because I was annoyed and didn’t care anymore, but not horrible enough to DNF.

Very rarely surprised but this plot twist caught me 100% off guard
Revisado: 05-20-24
This is my second series from this author and narrator, and I really enjoy both. The series has well rounded characters and the performance is great. For such a huge cast, each character is distinct and none fall into the annoying category. I will say the narration style for Darby is very much inner monologue and full of inflections and those exaggerations we all think but really say aloud. I found it hilarious and delightful, some may not.

3.5 stars
Revisado: 05-09-24
Overall the story isn’t bad, just has a lot of elements that annoy me personally. The MFC makes A LOT of stupid choices. Like watching the dumb girl go investigate the sound in a slasher flick dumb. But if she didn’t do those things, the plot wouldn’t advance.
Outside of that I also dislike the word choice used for the spicy scenes. I’m just not a fan of channel, secret spot, and bundle of nerves as euphemisms.
The characters are all well done and interesting in their own right and the voices are done well to distinguish all of them. The plot is a bit predictable but not boring.
Overall, it’s not a bad story and the things that knocked down stars for me may not bother other readers.

Everything was just ok
Revisado: 01-13-24
Story was fine, a little slow. I never really became invested in the MMC. Plot leans into the miscommunication trope, which I’m not a fan of. It wasn’t “bad” it was just ok.

One of the only series I’ve revisited multiple times.
Revisado: 08-26-23
It is common for a series to become predictable or to make characters unlikable etc as it goes on, but Sherry Thomas does a great job of avoiding these pitfalls so far.
I love how even the side characters are also given more and more depth with each story. The main mystery of each book is intriguing, even though I’ve listened to the whole series before and know the general outline of the plot. The attention to detail and how each mystery is solved and connected back to the overarching issues is still fun, even as I’m listening for a third time. Highly recommend to anyone.

Revisado: 08-21-23
I have listened to this entire series all the way through twice, and have decided to go through them all again before listening to the 7th book that was released recently.
The plot is intriguing, all the characters are well rounded and realistic, and the narrator does an excellent job with all of the different voices, even the male ones.

Historia
Ever since my parents died in the demon war, I've paid my way through life by using magic to con people. It's not right, but a girl's gotta do what she can to survive. Unfortunately, my latest con has left me smack dab in the middle of a murder scene. Now, a coven of angry mages thinks I'm the killer. In order to clear my name, I have to team up with an infuriatingly sexy warlock whose powers are far darker than he admits. Throw in a string of related murders and a vexed vampire clan, and I'm up to my eyeballs in danger.

Reads more like YA
Revisado: 07-16-23
I get that the MFC is only 21, but she acts very immature. She admits she ignorant about the magical community due to her family situation, but she never once stops to think that maybe she should learn more before acting on her limited knowledge or making assumptions. Also, they behave like phones aren’t a thing. So many instances wouldn’t have happened if they’d just called and gave the information instead of doing it in person, putting themselves and others in danger. Overall, I had to force myself to finish it.
Also, the ending is super abrupt with no resolution to the multiple side characters. The premise is good, and I was stupid enough to buy the whole series when it was on sale, so here’s hoping it gets better.
No real issues with the voice actor. They were fine.

Not bad overall
Revisado: 12-18-22
The story was good for the fake dating trope and entertaining for a couple of hours. My only real complaint is the male narrator. His performance was inconsistent. Great in some chapters, but rushed and flat in others. Came off as someone reading versus hearing someone speak or think.

Historia
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.
