Ending Ruined It

I generally liked the book up until the end which pretty much ruined it for me. ***Spoiler alert*** The not pressing charges and the whole forgiveness thing…it was attempted murder after a previous murder. The writing was way off on that whole thing…makes no sense, especially before they even leave the scene. There is also no guarantee that the other charges for crimes committed 3 yrs prior would stick and the current crime wouldn’t be prosecuted is ridiculous. None of it seems to be in the realm of reasonable and what would actually happen in these circumstances. I don’t know if the writer was just using the “forgiveness” storyline to rush through to the conclusion of the story, but it ruined the story IMO.

Sooo…book 1 was off to a good start, book 2 started to drag out and seemed to go into a repetitive/circular pattern, and book 3 should have been combined into 1&2. It’s a dark romance along the lines of one of my favorite authors Rina Kent, but I feel I’ve wasted a lot of time to get to the end of what seemed to be a good listen, at least initially, and had me fizzling out so much that I think I’ve lost interest in listening to any of the other books in the series...Dragged on and the events seemed to be a “oh and then this happened” add ons that really seemed to be a regurgitation of prior events with some details changed. I also found frustrating the inconsistency where parts of the book seemed to forget completely about other details that were already covered in the earlier parts of the story and that the FMC goes from being I’m going to figure this all out, and then to literally saying in book 3 “that she’s not a detective” in her internal monologue. Both the FMC and MMC are so easily enraged that the book seems to get rather monotonous with all of the in their face opportunities to find out more information and the rinse and repeat situations.

The story was filled with detailed characters and a VERY good plot. I have so many colorful words for this book. Usually, I fall asleep to books and just use them as background noise. But, this book kept me awake absolutely drawn to what would happen next. One night, I was listening until 2 in the morning before my phone died. The person reading the book had a really good voice that connected to the main character. Additionally, she used different tones and emphasized certain parts of the book which brought it to a whole new level. If you are in your teenage years, boy or girl, this book is able to relate to you. Regardless, I recommend listening to this book. It is truly amazing.

Generally I liked the series but this 2nd book just dragged out way too much. Additional storyline layers added were just distractions and many were pointless or didn’t add value.

I just don’t understand it…Why do some of these narrators with a perfectly fine voice do narration in a weird and unnatural cadence? This made the hours of listening obnoxious and unbearable. The female narrator ruined what seemed to be a good book…I just can’t get past it. Story probably deserves a higher rating, but I will never know. DNF

OMG, 5.5 hrs in and the book has been dragging. Soooooo slow and anticlimactic. Still waiting for the story to actually start. Completely manufactured, ridiculous, childish drama. Ava is a complete child and unnecessarily ridiculous…stupid, stupid, stupid.
Don’t waist your time…seriously.

This was almost the same storyline as Princess Diaries. With the exception of a few steamy scenes, most of which skipped over almost all of the detail, is was boring and childish. Skip it.

Afterthought

Revisado: 04-21-24

This book seems like a total afterthought, like the author didn’t plan for it at all. The back and forth seems only to have been added postscript to make the story different than that of Lex’s and Charlotte’s. The way book two ended and this started were night and day and the writing for both relationships, in regards to their connection with Alexa, are rather superficial. The author started to gliding a little deeper with Alexa and Hunter at the end of the book with the observations of Hunter with Elijah, but everything else fell flat…including her connection with Beau. If you’re looking for more than skin deep connections, I’d say skip this entire series. They are unnecessarily long without any real deep reflections or connections established in the writing. The writing, though not bad, is pretty surface level.

***Spoilers***
I’m not sure what I think yet. While her relationship with Hunter seems to be more significant than that with Cole’s, the book doesn’t get into much of an emotional connection…So for both of them to be reaching the conclusion that they are in love with each other towards the end of this book, it seems pretty weak as far as storylines go. Also, at the end Alexa has “reached” the conclusion to tell April. I say “reached” as there is nothing leading up to it late mention in the book that indicated she was agonizing over it or even gave it a thought before. Sounds like this is going to be a big part of the storyline in the next book and I’m kinda like “so where did that come from?” I guess we’ll see. Lastly, I agree with the another reviewer when they thought that the storyline of her getting pregnant, especially for a second time, is rather unbelievable. She isn’t uneducated nor lacking in resources so why didn’t she do anything? Hello, anyone ever heard of Plan B? To be continued
