Historia
1867, Richmond, Virginia: Though she wears the same low-cut purple gown that is the uniform of all the girls who work at Worsham's gambling parlor, Arabella stands apart. It's not merely her statuesque beauty and practiced charm. Even at seventeen, Arabella possesses an unyielding grit, and a resolve to escape her background of struggle and poverty. Collis Huntington, railroad baron and self-made multimillionaire, is drawn to Arabella from their first meeting. Collis is married and 30 years her senior, yet they are well-matched in temperament, and flirtation rapidly escalates into an affair.

couldn't stop listening
Revisado: 10-10-22
couldn't stop listening. I usually like to savor this audible books, but this was one I couldn't put down. binge listening to the finish. Didn't care for Rules of Civility, but fell in love with Gentleman in Moscow. Lincoln Highway is second to Gentleman but it's a close second.

Cozy at it's finest
Revisado: 09-12-21
If you enjoy a cozy mystery based on the life of a highly intelligent female, living "ahead of her times," mixed with adorable animals, set in the Edwardian English countryside, then this tale, and the entire series, is definitely for you. I've enjoyed the series and Ms Leishman's lovely voice as narrator so much, I've listened several times through. This is one of those magical series that's masterfully written and beautifully narrated, you won't want each book to end. The perfect pick me up books for the listening library.

Reliving Memories of My Children's Childhood
Revisado: 02-18-21
I didn't read the Harry Potter series when they were released because I was busy raising children, who did read the books however. I saw the movies with my children and enjoyed watching my kids enthusiasm with the stories and characters. One of my children passed away a few years ago, and I found her books, and plan to read them. I found the audible version and decided to give it a try and was elated with thr narration and details of the story. It feels like I'm reliving the memories with my child who loved these stories, and enjoying them with her as she watches over me in spirit.

Rona Jean Hancock - a telephone switchboard operator who earned her nickname because her shift ended at 11, when her nightlife was just beginning - has been found strangled with her own silk stocking.

Female forward and historically accurate suspense
Revisado: 11-21-20
I've enjoyed the Darling Dahlia stories by Ms. Wittig Albert, and the narrations by Ms. Price very much, and this one kept me on the edge of my seat until the last sentence. I couldn't stop listening, it was like not being able to put a book down, except my eyes didn't hurt afterwards. I enjoy the female centric novel series and especially the setting. The era and location, being in the south, take me back to the stories my grandmothers and great aunts told me about their lives, in small Texas towns, during the depression and the dustbowl era. I always learn a little something in each book. Ms. Wittig-Albert delivers several valuable life lessons along with a history lesson in each book. She's a wonderful writer. I look forward to the next novel in the series which is sitting in my library right now! Thank you ladies, well done!

Historia
In her delightful and moving memoir, Sissy Spacek writes about her idyllic, barefoot childhood in a small East Texas town, with the clarity and wisdom that comes from never losing sight of her roots. Descended from industrious Czech immigrants and threadbare southern gentility, she grew up a tomboy, tagging along with two older brothers and absorbing grace and grit from her remarkable parents, who taught her that she could do anything.

Rural Texas Childhood + Cosmo Adulthood = AWESOME
Revisado: 10-17-20
The first part of this book felt extremely personal for me. I loved hearing Sissy share her tales of a childhood in Quitman, especially after having lived there for a year, and visiting my family, who've been there since the 1800's, unbeknownst to me until I was about 20 years old, when they retired and built a home on family land, which had never been discussed previously. I knew nothing about East Texas growing up, but fell in love with it's unique beauty when I lived there. My daughter was born there, and sadly is buried in Quitman. We had her funeral at the Quitman Public Library, a building which Sissy mentions had great importance to her father. It was Thanksgiving Day and none of the churches would open for us. I spent a majority of time, during my pregnancy, at that library. My daughter would've approved. Thanks Sissy! It was my Mecca during my only "rural" living experience. I also enjoyed hearing Sissy speak about Lake Lydia, which is a mile from where I lived. I was very alone during that time, but I relished the beauty of the woods and Lake Lydia, and the library. Somehow I felt validation in hearing Sissy's perspectives on these places. Finally, someone else gets it!
Sissy's childhood years truly span the giant state of Texas, from East Texas to Central, to The Valley. This alone is interesting because the cultures of each region are distinct, and clearly had a positive impact on her outlook on life. Her life after leaving home for NYC is incredible and without giving anything away, I truly appreciate the depth Sissy shares in this personal, funny and sometimes painful journey. Her voice is soothing and I could listen to it all day long. I bought this book after listening to Sissy narrate Harper Lee's "To Kill A Mockingbird" and enjoyed it more than I had anticipated!I hope she continues to share her beautiful soul through more narrations on Audible!

Brings the heart and mind of HBP to Life!
Revisado: 03-20-20
Absolutely wonderful narration and story! Who knew Beatrix Potter was a woman ahead of her time and a true animal person and artist and all great human being. She struggled with anxiety and shyness, but still was able to find ways, to overcome, while being true to her best self. and enriching the lives of millions as a result. This story is for everyone, and especially for those feeling "less than" in a modern society. This is a timeless story about a real person. I just puchased the other 7 audiobooks in this series. I feel grateful to the author and narrator for this beautiful story.
