When Marcella Leones relocates her family of aswang vampires from the Philippines to Portland, Oregon, she raises her grandchildren under strict rules so humans will not expose them. Her only wish is to give them a peaceful life, far away from the hunters and the Filipino government that attempted to exterminate them. Before she dies, she passes on the power to her eldest grandchild, Percival. He vows to uphold the rules set forth by Leones, allowing his family to roam freely without notice. After all, they are aswangs.

Great Story by Filipino Author. Horrible Narration

Fun story for teens and young adults. The Filipino references were great- mythological creatures, cultural familial references, and even some Tagalog. The writing about the setting in Portland was great. I enjoyed the characters. The narration however, was so bad, at times I wanted to stop listening to the book. This is a book about a Filipino family and Filipino people. The "accent" that the narrator attempted to make was so bad, which is a shame because of the references to Filipino culture. There wasn't a Filipino person that could narrate this book? Again, great book but narration was hard to listen to with the poor accent and the mispronunciation of words. 🤢
