I'm glad that this book is helping people. I couldn't get past the hubris of calling it a 'theory' and have read dozens of books and philosophies that have detachment at their core, so this is highly unoriginal. What I appreciate, though, is that the message delivered in this way seems to help people. Just not for me.

I can't return it but if I could give it away to a MR fan, I would.

I learned a lot, although don’t feel very hopeful that the Democratic Party will incorporate any lessons shared here. Powerful stuff!

This is an essential read for the lifelong antiracism student and practitioner. Essential to learn and unlearn about the past and present heroes and the villains of America so that we can move forward together. So grateful for this book!

This one goes a long way at not only providing strategies but also validating the less tangible yet powerful gifts of empathy. I loved that there was a pdf of the Table of Contents!!! This has been a big gap with all of my Audible books - so grateful. I'm also noticing that I'm choosing books that ultimately aren't that great for the work commute - lots of lists, making it harder to track on a cohesive narrative. And this one was a little lighter on science than I had hoped. Overall, a good staple for empaths everywhere.

Lots of good gems in this one. Many of the insights are delivered in lists and bullet points but it was still a good listen. It ended with a big promo for more workshops which was my least favorite part. Overall awesome coaching tips to build my practice!

I bought this book as a co-active coach in training and it was a great way to reinforce the learnings I was getting, both in person and through reading the book. I’m not sure if it’s a standalone as the dialogs are helpful to read and reread but for me it did the trick. An awesome resource!

I read Seat of the Soul when it came out in the 90s and it was pretty darn transformative. The concepts are worthy of lifelong study and yet I didn't feel the spark I felt back then. Some of the content didn't resonate at all (like words used for ethnicities) and some was timeless. I probably won't finish this one but the review was a useful checkpoint for me in my own journey.

Codependent No More Audiolibro Por Melody Beattie arte de portada

A classic text on co-dependence

I've recognized "codependent" characteristics in myself for a while but never studied in depth all the ways this manifests. This book provides a foundation for understanding both the depth and breadth of codependency and how to address it. The narration was fine - Christina Moore reminds me a bit of Amy Sedaris, so I found her entertaining. Once I got to the chapter promoting 12 step programs, however, I stopped listening. The 12 steps are a great resource for some (and I've tried them myself), but I think there are lots of other resources that support "recovery." I think there are now more universal ways to talk about "god" and to move beyond the need to incorporate "codependent" as part of one's identity. This ending reminded me that I'm listening to someone who is deeply insightful about her own experiences, and not necessarily an objective expert in the field of codependence.

I know that storytelling is big right now but I found all of the story examples distracting from each step we were on. The musical interludes were also unhelpful. I was hoping for more instruction, which I get in the download - a very useful workbook.
Not a great selection for audiobook format, unfortunately.

I listen to audiobooks on my 20-30 minute daily commute, so this was a perfect compilation of short lectures and excerpts of all-things-MW. Marianne is a deep, smart, visionary thinker. I took one star from "Story" because there were a few lectures that were repeated, so this audiobook could have been better edited. At the same time, I could hear the insights again and again! (but maybe with different stories/contexts just to keep it fresh)
