Historia
As he wrote Horace Kirby’s will, James Spencer understood how unusual and difficult it would be to ensure that his client’s wishes were met. The wealthy life-long bachelor’s only sister had died eight years earlier. Before her husband had died, he’d left her with a daughter who was now almost seventeen years old. The girl couldn’t inherit until she reached eighteen and the precautions that Horace had included would prevent anyone from taking advantage of her until she came of age.

Depressing to think only 31 books remaining
Revisado: 04-15-25
Mr. Petit wrote 96 full length novels and this is number 65 (I believe). Severe withdrawal when the last one is recorded. I am always intrigued by how he came up with his plots. The protagonist solves problems but not with a gun as you've come to expect from the traditional shoot-em-up western. I'm only a third of the way through and the end is predictable but it's the journey that's entertaining. They're all great books and Michael Alan White is a superb narrator. All good things must come to an end but I'll prolong the inevitable when Mr. Petit's last book is recorded.

When Boady Sanden first receives the case of Elijah Matthews, he’s certain there’s not much he can do. But as a law professor working for the Innocence Project, Boady agrees to look into Elijah’s file. When he does, he is alarmed to find threads that lead back to the death of his colleague and friend, Ben Pruitt, a man shot to death four years earlier in Boady’s own home.

great story ruined by female narrators
Revisado: 03-30-25
Primary male narrator is good, other male narrator is marginal, female narrators are atrocious. As we all know the narrator of an audiobook can make a bad book enjoyable or a good book bad. The book has an interesting story line as you have come to expect from Mr. Eskens, but Mr. Tiedemann should go back to narrator school to learn how to carry different male voices and most importantly female voices. If the story wasn't so captivating as you became more involved I would have opted for the kindle version.

Jake Fletcher thought he’d been blessed among all men when he stood at the aisle across from his bride. How such an ordinary man like himself had won her heart still astounded him. It wasn’t until a month later that he understood what had attracted her attention, and that discovery would drive him across the plains of Colorado and Kansas to find her.

Western romance
Revisado: 02-21-25
This is a general review of all C J Petit's books not of Nora in particular. First they are all romance novels set in the West after the Civil War. Being an insufferable romantic I find this appealing but others may not. The protagonists are all Dudley Dorights with empathy for women (being a prostitute is not your fault). They are all tall, great shots, educated by their mom, horses are their best friend, read a lot and are generally well off. They are also great lovers. This is the stock character and are interchangeable from one book to another. Every man or woman has blue, green or grey eyes with a few brown eyes thrown in for diversity. The theme of all the books is different and interesting...not your usual shoot 'em up at high noon, cattle rustling or range wars. I mean how many westerners are about a solar eclipse. Petit is big on going to the privy, period firearms and describing how a bullet goes through a body...strange. Nobody just gets shot. Michael Alan White is a great narrator. A clear voice, doesn't try to over dramatize action and is pitch perfect with the female voice. White and Petit are made for each other. Ok, Petit is not writing the great American novel, they're westerners after all but I check in with Audible every few weeks to see if a new Petit book is out. Sometimes I feel like I should be listening to something more enlightening but his books are addictive and I'm an addict.

Ok, they're al great but this one a little bit less. Too much philosophy and not enough dry humor. As always Mr. Mackenzie is superb.

the end of George Guidall
Revisado: 11-23-24
Longmire and George Guidall are synonymous. The last book was OK to listen to, the book before it was hard to hear until I resorted to earbuds, Guidall is getting up in years (85?) and is progressively harder to understand. I have loved the whole series but it was a matter of time before Guidall voice gave out. Maybe it's me or the production which may account for this short novella instead of a full lenght book but sadly this is my last Longmire because Guidall is Longmire. I have tried earbuds, portable speakers and a soundbar with equalizers to no avail. Guess I'll never know if Walt marries Vic but this may be the last of a wonderful series and we'll never know. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. I gave the story 3 stars because most of the books were good but I have no idea of the Tooth and Claws story so I really can't comment.

Yeah, it really is bad
Revisado: 05-30-24
Not even a decent 10-cent Western. Trite, formalistic cattle rustling yarn written by a New Yorker circa 1905. Nothing against New Yorkers making money by churning out these types of books once a week for 10-year-old boys. Even adjusted for inflation they should still cost 10 cents.

George Guidall
Revisado: 10-30-23
Guidall is Longmire. When one is gone so is the other. The quality of his narration is declining and the last two books were difficult to understand. I don't know if it will work for others but, I used my Bose earbuds with an equalizer which took me back to the incomparable team of Longmire and Guidall. I can't envision the Longnnire series without Guidall All things must end but maybe we'll be rewarded with a few more books. Oh yeah, the book is one of the better in the series and we have to buy 20 when it comes out to find out if Longmire and Vic get married, Sorry to give away some of the plot but that is a minor part of the book. It's only interesting because we know the characters so well.

Historia
September 1962: On a moonless night over the raging Atlantic Ocean, a thousand miles from land, the engines of Flying Tiger flight 923 to Germany burst into flames, one by one. Pilot John Murray didn't have long before the plane crashed headlong into the 20-foot waves at 120 mph. As the four flight attendants donned life vests, collected sharp objects, and explained how to brace for the ferocious impact, 68 passengers clung to their seats. They all expected to die.

Boring
Revisado: 10-15-22
After wasting an eternity on bios of seemingly everyone on the plane I assume the book will get around eventually to the ditching of the plane in the sea as illustrated on the cover. If anyone gets that far let me know how it ends. 99% filler! Good narration though.

In his haste to escape a scalding death, the engine operator panicked and fell. Dylan lifted his heavy shovel as high as his 12-year-old arms could manage and swung at the thundering machine. It could've killed him, but he had to try. As the shovel’s steel head slammed into the machine, it set in motion a series of events that would shape his entire life.

dime store novel
Revisado: 08-22-22
More like a ten-cent boys' book knocked out at the rate of two per week. All the stock characters with a predictable plot with good guys and bad guys. It's not bad with a can of paint, earbuds and a few beers doing some mindless task that doesn't require a lot of attention on your part. If you accept the concept it's kinda fun as background "noise". And no matter how silly and contrived it is, you can get hooked on the characters and have 60 hours of semi-listening to paint your house. Fits my needs perfectly! (I've only read the first installment of this "saga" so I'm assuming the next 5 pretty much follow the same pattern)

Peter Dunstan is a big rancher who wants to become bigger, to control more land. So when he buys Dr. Henry Morgan's ranchland that has been unsuccessfully converted to farming, it is his intention to return it to open range. The only stipulation the doctor makes is that Dunstan must retain Sandy Sweyn, who has more or less been Dr. Morgan's ward. Though the man is of age, he is generally considered a half-wit, even by the doctor. Still, Sandy has a fabulous gift: He can communicate with animals.

Just a great book with an unexpected story. It breaks the traditional mold of the classic western plot. Highly recommend and excellent narrator.
