I expected to read about three strangers (human) stumbling their way into each other and sharing horrifying tales of their adventures while watching their backs in this strange forest the local astartes had grown. the dangers they faced being comparatively easy to the Grandsons of the Emporer.
That is not the case. It's a story about an Astartes who broods a lot and his entanglement with the strange woods. it's existence is not his fault, but he is tied to it and that's what bothers me.
anyway the woods are obviously Tzeenchian and I'm not even halfway through the book yet

OH MY!

Fine except for the unresolved sexual abuse,

I enjoyed this up until the romantic climax. The majority of the story Lockland sexually terrorizes Emma, though he becomes more and more considerate of her each time. Emma responds mostly as a true victim of sexual abuse would, confused, and hurt. They go back and forth on lying to each other and promises, and then the "Lycra" instinct takes over Emma and the two "actually have sex." Using quotations because all the other intimate acts apparently didn't count. Suddenly Emma who, just before the Lycra instinct took over was actively trying to escape, is perfectly okay to be with Lockland and leave him at a later date. They never work through the fact that he has hurt her, multiple times. Which is a shame because it seemed they were going that way before the full moon happened. I had to put this book down after that point because it was so aggravating.
There is some excellent world building here with the creatures of the Lore, the characters are great outside that one area.
That all said this is absolutely for people into steamy non con/semi non con sex that doesn't exactly stop.

The characters were great

I really enjoyed the first half of the story. The characters and world building really drew me in.
